Time Magazine Names the GoCar One of the Coolest Inventions of 2004

Market Wire, November, 2004

GoCar Rentals, Inc., the company that has developed the first-ever GPS-guided storytelling car, today announced that its GoCar has been named by Time as one of the "Coolest Inventions of the Year" for 2004. Time has featured the GoCar in its special November 29, 2004 "Inventions of 2004" issue available on newsstands now.

GoCar Rentals is a revolutionary tour company that provides visitors with the most exhilarating and unique way to see a city. GoCar Rentals' Daytona yellow three-wheeler GoCar features a GPS-driven audio guide that takes driver and passenger on a zippy tour of the city's famous landmarks providing clear directions and explaining city lore along the way. Unlike traditional GPS systems, this "personal tour guide for two" is packed with personality and a friendly human voice that will tell you stories of the landmarks as you near them, with the special insight of a San Francisco native. For example, cruising down Lombard Street, known to tourists as "the World's Crookedest Street," the GoCar informs you that Lombard isn't even San Francisco's crookedest street -- Vermont Street in Potrero Hill holds that honor -- but that Lombard is for sure the more attractive of the two. GoCar drivers say the talking yellow buggies draw so much attention that they in turn end up being tourist attractions.

Said Time editors, "Forgot the map? Left the guidebook at the hotel? No problem. The GoCar is a three-wheel tour guide equipped with a GPS system that not only tells you where to go but also describes the sights once you reach them. The brainchild of Nathan Withrington, a pilot and engineer from Britain, the GoCar speaks directions out loud. Currently available only in San Francisco, it goes up to 35 m.p.h. and travels a 12- to 17-mile loop."

"The Time Magazine honor caps an incredibly exciting year for our company," said Nathan Withrington, CEO and Co-Founder, GoCar Rentals, Inc. "Since our launch in April 2004, the response from the press and tourists alike has been overwhelming. To have been selected by Time, one of the world's greatest media outlets, and featured among the leading inventions of the year is nothing short of spectacular. We are delighted at this special honor and are looking forward to introducing this unique approach to tourism to additional cities around the world."

To date, the GoCar has been featured by The San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, The New York Times, KPIX's Evening Magazine, The Today Show, TechTV, CNN Headline News, The London Times, The Associated Press, The Dallas Morning News, The Chicago-Sun Times and many other leading outlets.
