Butler Wins New Engineering Project to Support Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation
Market Wire, December, 2004
Butler International, Inc. (NASDAQ: BUTL) announced today that it has been selected to open a new Engineering Design Center for Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. The initial term of the award is three years. The new Center will be opened this year in West Lafayette, Indiana with up to 40 Butler employees beginning January 2005, and could grow to 200 or more if Sikorsky is successful in winning future U.S. government and international contracts. The Center will perform targeted engineering detail design activities in support of projected growth in domestic and international development program requirements. Sikorsky has been one of Butler's largest customers for more than 15 years and Butler has supported Sikorsky's entire product line with an offsite Engineering and Technology Development Center. In 2003, Butler achieved UT500 Preferred Supplier Status for both Contract and Outsource Engineering services for United Technologies Inc., Sikorsky's parent company.
Purdue Research Park is Indiana's first Certified Technology Park and home to the largest university-affiliated technology incubator in the country. Thus it was named the top research park in the nation by its peers at the Association of University Research Parks. In the past three years, the park has launched more than 30 technology startup companies. The more than 100 companies in the park employ more than 2,500 people. Butler has had operations in Indiana for over 25 years.
Edward M. Kopko, Chairman and CEO of Butler, commented: "The award of this important contract is a testament to Butler's ability to provide high-quality, skilled resources and customize our services to meet our customer's unique needs at a great value. We are pleased to grow our relationship with Sikorsky and are looking forward to expanding our presence in Indiana by opening the center in West Lafayette."
"This is a great opportunity to grow our long-standing relationship with Butler International. Butler's expansion into West Lafayette is fully aligned with our strategy of utilizing domestic Engineering Design Centers for targeted airframe and subsystem detail design activities. The work performed at the West Lafayette Design Center will be complementary to the system integration, vehicle definition and dynamic systems design activities ongoing at our home office in Connecticut, and will be a key element in meeting anticipated growing engineering requirements," said Mark F. Miller, Sikorsky's Vice President of Research and Engineering.
Butler currently has 16 Engineering and Technology Development Centers located in the United States and abroad. Butler's in-house technology, design, drafting, and engineering support services give Butler's customers the ability to outsource drafting, design, legacy drawing conversion and engineering projects to a team of dedicated design and engineering professionals that are trained and recognized as experts in AutoCAD, CATIA, Pro/E and Unigraphics software packages, analytical tools and interactive product simulation applications. In addition to design functions, Butler's development centers also offer QA testing, network services and application development. Geographic presence in major markets serves industries including: aircraft/aerospace, energy, electronics, heavy equipment/machinery, financial services, telecommunications and pharmaceutical.
