International Trademark Association Releases International Opposition Guide Online
Market Wire, December, 2004
The International Trademark Association (INTA) has released its newest online publication, International Opposition Guide. This electronic resource, available exclusively to INTA members, offers practical information on the structure of local trademark opposition and related practices in 130 jurisdictions, and allows trademark professionals to quickly assess the availability and feasibility of pursuing trademark opposition before incurring costs, which helps clients make informed legal and business decisions.
International Opposition Guide (IOG), like INTA's recent online edition of Country Guides, is searchable on a country-by-country basis, and features general provisions, alternatives to opposition, opponent issues, filing requirements, post-filing stages and procedures, and much more essential information. The content can be searched by a full report or simple profile on a single jurisdiction, in an advanced search by a single subject heading across all jurisdictions, by particular subject headings within one jurisdiction, or by one or more subject headings in up to four jurisdictions at a time.
"A worldwide guide to opposition has for some time struck me as a real need for the practicing trademark attorney," says Principal Editor Richard Ashmead. "I am confident that International Opposition Guide will find a useful and valued place on the trademark attorney's cyber-shelf to assist in balanced and constructive opposition decisions."
Principal Editor Carmen Lichtenstein agrees. "IOG saves time and correspondence and enables users to get the most important initial answers on whether and when an opposition is possible," she says.
"The addition of IOG to INTA's Members Only Site marks the Association's ongoing efforts to provide its members with up-to-date, comprehensive online resources," says INTA Publications Manager Mary McGrane. "We will continue to add online content -- the next up is The Practitioner's Guide to the Madrid Agreement and the Madrid Protocol in 2005."
