Application Security, Inc. Updates Flagship Database Security Product With Streamlined Remediation, New Platform Support
Market Wire, December, 2004
Application Security, Inc. (www.appsecinc.com), the leading provider of proactive database security solutions, announced a new release of its flagship product, AppDetective, the industry-leading database vulnerability assessment solution. With AppDetective 5.0, organizations can not only proactively discover the vulnerabilities which threaten their corporate databases, but also streamline their removal. On display this week at the Oracle Open World show in San Francisco and Infosecurity in New York City, AppDetective 5.0 will be generally available by year-end.
Secures the Crown Jewels & Bolsters Regulatory Compliance
Between sensitive customer data and the transactions that fuel a business, databases hold the crown jewels at most organizations. Not only does this make databases a prized target for attackers -- industry experts believe that 75% of attacks are now at the application level -- but also auditors given regulations like Sarbanes Oxley and California Senate Bill 1386. By helping organizations proactively eliminate database vulnerabilities and routinely audit database controls, AppDetective 5.0 helps organizations not only better secure their most valuable assets, but also bolster regulatory compliance efforts.
AppDetective 5.0 builds on the product's existing trademark features which include comprehensive discovery, identification, and classification of security holes and misconfigurations, as well as role-based access control and broad platform support. Version 5.0 adds streamlined remediation tools, support for new platforms, and customizable audit checks.
Closes the Loop on Database Vulnerabilities
In today's environment of increased attacks and mounting compliance requirements, enterprises are under enormous pressure to ensure database security and efficiency while maintaining the level of service partners and costumers expect. AppDetective 5.0 supports these efforts by streamlining remediation through tailored remediation scripts. Having intelligently discovered and assessed the security of enterprise databases based on the industry's most extensive set of checks and tests, AppDetective will now generate custom scripts which eliminate the discovered vulnerabilities. Administrators can review and tailor these fixes to automate the remediation process, thus streamlining vulnerability removal.
"New database breaches and vulnerabilities are reported nearly every week," said Ted Julian, VP of Marketing at Application Security, Inc. "As a result, database security solutions such as AppDetective have become a critical component of the enterprise security regimen as they extend a layered defense to include the source -- the corporate database," Mr. Julian added.
New Platforms Support All Three Application Tiers
AppDetective 5.0 further extends coverage across all three application tiers by adding support for IBM DB2 on the mainframe, IBM WebSphere, and BEA WebLogic. This support expands AppDetective's unmatched ability to proactively harden all three application tiers: back-end database, packaged application / middleware, and Web front-end. As a result, organizations can standardize on a single, integrated vulnerability assessment solution for their databases applications, rather than cobble together multiple discrete tools.
Other AppDetective 5.0 features include:
-- User-Defined Security Audit Checks: AppDetective users can now specify their own audit checks to add depth into their existing corporate information security policies. User-defined checks can be saved independently or added to built-in policies.
-- Management Level Vulnerability Reporting: To better meet the needs of all levels of the organization, AppDetective reports now include a high-level dashboard with graphs that outline alerts by risk level and alerts by security check category.
