Irdeto Access Wins Global Content Security Contract With ABS-CBN

Market Wire, January, 2005

Irdeto Access, a world leader in content security and a subsidiary of multinational media group Naspers (NASDAQ: NPSN) and (JSE: NPN), today announced that ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation (ABS-CBN), the largest integrated media and entertainment company in the Philippines with operations worldwide, is migrating all its satellite DTH customers in Europe and the Middle East to the content security solution: Irdeto PIsys for Digtal TV. Irdeto PIsys will replace the incumbent content security system provided by one of Irdeto Access' competitors for that region

Possible loss of revenue due to piracy was the most pressing reason for ABS-CBN to change its content security system. The media giant identified Irdeto PIsys as the best solution to the problem, based on Irdeto Access' long track record in providing content security to 145 operators worldwide.

Designed for large operators, Irdeto PIsys is a scalable, modular, content security system. It will protect ABS-CBN's transmission beyond its current 200,000 subscribers in the US and Australia (where Irdeto Access already protects ABS/CBN's revenues), as ABS-CBN rapidly expands its business to serve the Filipino diaspora worldwide. ABS-CBN has deployed Irdeto PIsys at its uplink facility in Burlingame, California, and will rely exclusively on Irdeto Access for all its satellite content security.

"After deploying two different content security systems for several years, we have decided to consolidate our worldwide satellite operations using Irdeto PIsys for Digital TV," said Rafael Lopez, Vice President and Managing Director at ABS-CBN International. "We found Irdeto PIsys to be the most secure, scaleable and user friendly content security system of all those available on the market. Combining this with Irdeto Access' excellent customer and technical support means we look forward to continuing our long partnership with Irdeto Access."

"We are very pleased that ABS-CBN has chosen Irdeto Access as its content security supplier of choice reinforcing our existing relationship," said Graham Kill, CEO of Irdeto Access. "By using Irdeto PIsys for Digital TV, ABS-CBN is enhancing its security significantly, allowing it to focus on producing quality programming for its growing customer base worldwide."

In addition to 24/7 customer support, Irdeto Access offers selected services to its customers including on site customer training and support in set-top box selection. As part of its quality service, each customer receives a thorough testing of the security system's functionality and device verification testing of all set-top boxes selected. The company also provides consultancy to operators on how to set up a sound security management program in cooperation with partners and on how to create additional content revenue streams.
