East Alabama Medical Center Selects Roving Planet to Secure, Manage and Monitor New Wireless LAN
Market Wire, January, 2005
Roving Planet, a leading provider of integrated wireless LAN security and management solutions, today announced East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) has selected Roving Planet to secure, manage and monitor its wireless LAN. The Roving Planet solution will help EAMC roll out its guest access initiative, meet HIPAA standards and demonstrate compliancy through policy-based security management, detailed monitoring and business-level reporting.
The East Alabama Medical Center wireless LAN (WLAN) initiative facilitates computerized physician order entry and e-prescribing and provides access to patient medical records at the point-of-care using a combination of tablet and laptop personal computers. EAMC sought a WLAN management solution that offered strong security policies and audit trails on network activity. EAMC also required a solution for secure guest access to its WLAN that would allow them to mix different types of authentications and access controls.
"Most authentications have been cracked," stated Richard Silver, Senior Network Engineer, East Alabama Medical Center. "We needed to move beyond the network layer and not be tied to one authentication type for security. Our guest access initiative also drove the need to deploy multiple authentication services and strong application access controls. Roving Planet's software platform gives us complete assurance that access to highly confidential and often times patient-critical information is only granted to approved network users."
"Our comprehensive solution enhances any healthcare provider's wireless LAN with a framework of integrated, policy-based security and management," stated Greg Mesch, President and CEO of Roving Planet. "East Alabama Medical Center will benefit from our platform's tight security and guest access management, and our intelligence gathering will provide the detailed monitoring, alerting and business-level reporting necessary to demonstrate their HIPAA compliancy."
