eCAP Enables ISVs to Incorporate Paper-Based Information Into Their Enterprise Applications Through Easy Integration With eCopy Software

Market Wire, February, 2005

eCopy, Inc., a leading provider of solutions that integrate paper documents into electronic enterprise applications, today announced the eCopy Connections Alliance Program (eCAP). The new Program enables independent software vendors (ISVs) to easily create software integration between their enterprise applications and eCopy's robust document scanning services operating on a range of multifunction peripherals (MFPs) and scanners.

eCAP eliminates the daunting requirement for ISVs to integrate directly with multiple and different MFP and scanner manufacturers' products. With a limited investment in software development, ISVs can provide eCopy capabilities so that their users can easily incorporate paper-based information into their applications.

"The Open Platform architecture extends eCopy's capabilities across a number of MFP and scanner platforms and once again demonstrates that eCopy is the visionary leader in the market," said Mike Holp, Channel Manager for ZyLAB North America. "Typically, more than 80 percent of our customers' critical information assets are paper-based. eCopy Open Platform makes it possible for companies to use scanners or MFPs from a number of companies to incorporate this critical content into our ZyIMAGE document management solution."

Over 30 ISVs are currently developing integration to the Open Platform architecture. Connectors that provide robust integration to the eCopy Open Platform are currently available for enterprise content management applications from EMC, Interwoven, Hummingbird, and Open Text. For more detailed information on integrating enterprise applications to eCopy's architecture, see the Open Platform whitepaper at http://www.ecopy.com/paperconnection/.

"Biscom and eCopy have worked together for over a decade on a variety of product developments," said Chris MacKenzie, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Biscom. "This new program expands our relationship because it enables our customers to use eCopy software to access our Fax capabilities from a number of digital copier platforms."

The eCopy Software Developers Kit (SDK) helps reduce the amount of development resources required to provide integration to the eCopy Open Platform architecture. The SDK provides access to eCopy APIs and a GUI-interface generator that enables developers to easily create screens that match the look and feel of those used by major MFP brands. The GUI-interface generator includes templates for clients running on both embedded MFP platforms and PCs for scanner-based document capture. ISVs can more easily develop source code for the integration framework using the SDK's Visual Studio.NET Connector Wizard.

"The Open Platform architecture makes it much easier to provide customers with the additional value of an eCopy front-end to Document Locator," said Carl Azar, Director of Business Development at ColumbiaSoft Corporation. "The eCopy SDK enables us to tap into eCopy's scanning expertise and provides the means to easily create a tight integration that extends the power of our document management software directly to the digital copier."

eCAP is part of a multifaceted eCopy program called The Paper Connection, which is designed to make it easy for any office worker to integrate paper-based information into enterprise applications, such as enterprise content management (ECM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), and e-mail. The Paper Connection complements organizations' growing emphasis on information lifecycle management (ILM) and addresses the challenge of distributing, managing, accessing, and protecting paper-based information. See today's related announcement on The Paper Connection at http://www.ecopy.com for more information.

eCopy's software, coupled with a scanner or digital copier, enables organizations to transform paper documents into electronic documents. Using eCopy, organizations can provide open access to scanning that connects to enterprise applications, such as document management, e-mail, and fax, for low-cost, easy, instantaneous distribution and management of digital copies of paper documents.
