MicroStrategy Returns To "Small Cap" Status

Vienna, Va. -- MicroStrategy, just months ago one of the largest companies in the DC area, has officially returned to "small cap" status after seeing its stock price drop by nearly 17% today. Most institutional investors consider "small cap" stocks to be companies with a market capitalization of under $2 billion; in MicroStategy had a market value of about $1.9 billion at the end of trading today. Yesterday, the company announced that it had a loss of $32.9 million in the first quarter. After restating its financial statements last month, the company's stock price has plummeted from above $300 to around $25 at the end of trading today. The Washington Post reported that in a conference call yesterday, CEO Michael Saylor said that the company will continue to post losses this year. The Post also quoted Saylor as saying that he has not seen "any material (employee) turnover as a result of this restatement. In fact, if this has had any effect on the employees, I believe it's primarily that it's caused everyone to redouble their efforts and redouble their commitment to the corporation." www.MicroStrategy.com

BoldBrain.com Launches Site For College Market

Washington, DC -- BoldBrain.com today launched a web site that provides information and a rating system for e-commerce web sites that are targeting the college market. The guide allows students to read and post reviews about the performances of BoldBrain.com's list of over 300 online retailers based on features such as price, delivery and customer service. "Saturation of the college marketplace has generated a sense of confusion and uncertainty among students as to which e-commerce retailers best provide quality, dependability and value," said Jeffrey Frumin, co-founder of DC-based BoldBrain.com. In 1996, Frumin, along with co-founder, Neil Siman, launched Event Concepts Inc., a collegiate event-marketing company. www.boldbrain.com
