Pulse Entertainment To Stream Interactive 3D Content To Over 125 Million Registered Users Of RealPlayer Around The World
Market Wire, 20050229
Pulse Entertainment, a leader in the development of interactive rich media technology for the Internet and the recent winner of the RedHerring Top 50 Award, today announced that Pulse-powered content will stream to RealNetworks(R), Inc. (NASDAQ: RNWK) RealPlayer(R). By enabling real-time interactive Pulse-enabled content to run in the RealPlayer, leading Pulse partners such as Time Warner, NBC, Electronic Arts and MTV will have greatly increased distribution to an audience of more than 125 million registered users of RealPlayer.
"We're excited to partner with RealNetworks to optimize our technology for the world's leading media player," said Fred Angelopoulos, Chief Executive Officer of Pulse Entertainment. "The opportunity to reach such a large audience of registered RealPlayer users solidifies Pulse's technology and distribution position by further establishing the interactive content delivery system for rich media while delivering real-time interactivity to the RealPlayer."
RealNetworks has over 125 million registered RealPlayer users and is downloading an additional 200,000 RealPlayers each day. With this partnership, companies such as Electronic Arts, Microsoft, 3dfx, Intel, NBC and The Jim Henson Company, will have broader distribution for their Pulse-enabled content over one of the leading multimedia delivery vehicles.
"Pulse Entertainment has enabled the leading brands and properties, like MTV, NBC and the Jim Henson Company to come to life on the Internet," said Jeff Pancottine, senior vice president, RealNetworks, Inc. "With Pulse leveraging our flexible and extensible RealSystem(R) architecture, these interactive properties will now be able to reach our more than 125 million unique registered RealPlayer users on the Internet."
The announcement was made as Real Conference 2000 takes place this week in San Jose. Puppeteers from Jim Henson's Creature Shop will be on hand at the Pulse Entertainment/Discreet booth to promote the debut of the first Pulse-powered MuppeToon to run on RealPlayer. Pulse Entertainment and The Jim Henson Company initially collaborated to bring the Muppets to life on the Internet via the Creature Shop's real time digital performance system, Discreet's 3D Studio MAX and Pulse's rich media platform.
"With Pulse's interactive rich media platform, we found the technology we need to ensure the quality delivery of 3D Muppet digital performances," explains Michele Martell, Vice President of Business Affairs and Interactive Business Development at The Jim Henson Company. "The Jim Henson Company has always been eager to make use of innovative, new story-telling tools. The combination of our patented digital performance system with Pulse's technology and RealPlayer's broad audience reach enables us to deliver compelling content to a global internet community."
