Wyse Technology Cited As Most Widely Recognized Name In Thin-Client Hardware By International Data Corporation
Market Wire, 20050229
Wyse Technology, the originator of the thin-client market, was cited in a recent International Data Corporation (IDC) special report (1) as being the most recognized name in thin-client hardware. The report, based on a survey of 175 U.S. businesses, indicated that Wyse was the most frequently mentioned vendor in a market that consists of traditional thin-client manufacturers and a growing contingent of large systems vendors. Earlier in the year, Wyse proved to be the dominant provider of thin clients for 1999, securing 37.5 percent of the overall worldwide enterprise thin-client market, 51.8 percent of the Windows-based terminal market and growing shipments by more than 124 percent over 1998 to more than 262,000 units (2).
"IDC's study results show that the future purchase of thin clients among those using, ordering and evaluating the products is solid," said Bruce Stephen, Group Vide President of IDC's Worldwide Personal Systems Research."
The IDC study shows that 75 percent of 175 respondents said thin clients are an acceptable alternative for some PC users, and more than 50 percent of respondents have replaced PCs with thin clients. Nearly 50 percent of the survey group was comprised of companies that were using thin clients, while the remainder had ordered or were evaluating thin clients.
LEADING THROUGH THINOVATION
Wyse's Thinovation initiative changes the thin-client landscape through the delivery of a suite of Personal Thin Clients. Personal Thin Clients marry Wyse's vision of helping people communicate and access information affordably with the convergence of the key benefits of thin clients and PCs to deliver the widest range of information access devices. Wyse's new Thinovation initiative mirrors the trends of the Post-PC Era, proving that the traditional computing needs of both the enterprise and the general consumer are inherently the same and can be met through Wyse's Personal Thin Client offerings.
"Players come and players go in the thin-client market, but there has always been one constant force driving the market towards the mainstream, and that force has been Wyse Technology," said John Stringer, president of Wyse Technology Inc. "The thin client has become the desktop peer to the PC for many mainstream applications, and is superior to the PC in applications where bandwidth, ease of management, cost, and reliability are important. We are leading the market into the next phase of its evolution as businesses seek to make the best desktop choice for their organizations."
Through the creation of Personal Thin Clients as part of Wyse's Thinovation initiative, Wyse has broadened the selection of innovative feature sets, shapes, sizes and multi-lingual support enabling organizations to affordably adopt a thin-client solution tailored to their specific needs. This provides the enterprises, and eventually consumers, with flexibility without the complexity of the personal computer.
