Polk Audio Announces 5.1-Channel Multimedia Loudspeaker
Market Wire, September, 2001
Polk Audio, Inc., a leading manufacturer of home, auto and multimedia loudspeakers, today announced the addition of the AMR130 6-piece speaker system to their line of Active Media Reference (AMR) loudspeakers. The new system is designed to bring high fidelity audio performance to home entertainment computers equipped with 5.1 channel soundcards. The AMR130 features 4 matched satellite speakers for front and surround, a dedicated center channel speaker, an all-new robust subwoofer and built-in amplifiers to power the system. The suggested retail price for the AMR130 is $169.95.
The AMR130 satellites feature a full range 3" magnetically shielded driver. The rear channel surround satellites come with built-in brackets for easy wall mounting. The center speaker uses an identical 3" full range shielded driver as the other satellites for a perfect channel to channel timbre match and lifelike imaging. The center speaker can be mounted either on top of a monitor, on the desk in front of the monitor, or wall-mounted above the monitor with the built-in keyhole slots. To allow the center speaker to be correctly positioned and rest securely on top of a monitor, it incorporates an adjustable easel stand on the back of the enclosure. This allows the user to compensate for the shape of the monitor and adjust the angle of the speaker for best imaging. For added security Polk supplies double-stick foam pads to adhere the center speaker to the top of the monitor. Removing the easel stand allows the speaker to point up towards the listener when using the center speaker on the desktop.
The subwoofer is an all-new design, using a 5-1/4" long throw woofer and a larger enclosure than previous Polk models for deeper and louder bass. The enclosure is MDF wood to suppress cabinet resonance for cleaner, more accurate bass response. The rear-mounted bass port uses internal and external flared ends to minimize air turbulence at the mouths of the port tube. Lowered air turbulence means lower bass distortion and port noise.
The AMR130 will be available at major retailers, in HP's Configure to Order program and on PolkAudio.com in October 2001.
