Market Wire, 20050229
The World Organization of Webmasters (WOW) headquartered in Folsom, CA, has formed a partnership with Allentown Business School to train and certify Web professionals in Pennsylvania.
Web professional education and certification standards developed by WOW are supported by leaders from the computer industry, including Microsoft, Adobe, and the U.S. government. A key factor in support of this initiative was a $1.4 million federal grant that WOW received in September in collaboration with Prentice Hall Publishing Company, the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) and the University of Washington to create educational resources and standards for Web professionals worldwide.
WOW's purpose is to develop a strong consortium of educational and business partners while maintaining standards that are key to the training and skills employers are seeking in today's market place. Among the courses offered are Web Design, Webmaster, Web Development and Web Server, which include Security, E-Commerce and Marketing.
Bill Cullifer, Executive Director of WOW, says, "There is a huge increase in demand for qualified Webmasters with the number of Websites projected to grow from about 8 million today to about 32 million by the year 2003. Webmasters with business, technical, design and project management skills are, and will continue to be, in high demand and will receive the highest compensation. WOW is helping prepare students in the field by providing employees with good Webmaster skills." Allentown Business School offers one of the most comprehensive programs for Web professionals in the country and we are pleased to partner with them to prepare students with the skills they will need to succeed in the marketplace."
Steve LaBadie, an Instructor in the Web Curriculum for Allentown Business School, says, "I am excited about the WOW and Allentown Business School partnership. This is an incredible opportunity for those interested in Web careers in Pennsylvania.
Allentown Business School offers Web Administration, which is an 18 Month course (Degree Program AA), and Web Design & Technology, which is a 12 Month course (Diploma Program). The object of the web program is to train the students in many technologies involved in developing and maintaining a corporate Web site, whether it be Internet, Intranet or Extranet related. These technologies include, programming, database design, multimedia, and e-commerce. There are also advanced courses in site development, and database management using Oracle and E-Commerce.
The World Organization of Webmasters (WOW) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the support, education and promotion of Web professionals who create, manage or market Web sites. For more information visit: www.joinwow.org
