PowerQuest's Drive Image 2002 Simplifies PC Disaster Recovery
Market Wire, 20050229
PowerQuest(R) Corporation, a provider of proven solutions for storage management, announces the release of Drive Image(R) 2002, the latest version of its award-winning imaging software that protects hard drive data, applications and the operating system from computer disaster.
When a computer disaster strikes, users want to know they can safely recover their system. However, most users don't create backup images of their system to ensure disaster recovery. Drive Image 2002 combines the reliability and effectiveness of its predecessors with a new intuitive Windows interface. Users can now copy or restore non-systems partitions without needing to boot to DOS, saving time as well as avoiding frustration. Drive Image 2002 also provides added ease-of-use by incorporating patented partitioning capabilities to allow the user to create and maintain a separate partition for backup images.
"Drive Image 2002 can burn an exact duplicate of my hard drive onto a CD-R," says Corey Gouker, founder of AuroraVisions and beta tester for Drive Image 2002. "Whenever I have computer problems, I can restore my hard drive to its pristine condition with a few simple mouse clicks."
Drive Image 2002 has a new disk operations feature that enables users of all ability levels to manage their backup partitions. Through the use of wizards, the user can now create a separate backup location and resize partitions without needing any other special software. In addition, new LAN support allows users to save images to and restore from a network drive, giving users an additional means to free up valuable hard drive space on local machines.
Drive Image 2002 also includes a new file browser that can access files on FAT, FAT32, or NTFS file systems in both visible and hidden partitions. This feature facilitates maintenance and cleanup of image files, no matter what kind of partition they reside on.
Like the previous version, Drive Image 2002 can schedule regular backups, eliminating the need to manually initiate the imaging process. Drive Image maintains the user's system preferences, so the user does not have to reconfigure them when recovering from a computer disaster. The user saves hours of reinstallation work because Drive Image duplicates the entire hard drive, including data, applications and systems, into a single image.
Drive Image 2002 can save partitions or entire hard drives onto ZIP(R) or Jaz(R) media. The program supports the following CD-R/W drives: IDE, SCSI and PCMCIA. FAT, FAT32, NTFS and Linux Ext2/Swap file systems are also supported.
Computer manufacturers also use the core technology in Drive Image 2002 on millions of PCs and laptops worldwide each year. The imaging technology is used to create new PC images and for disaster recovery support by recognized PC and laptop manufacturers.
System Requirements
Drive Image 2002 is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 2000 (Professional), Windows Me, Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and Windows 9x. System requirements include 20 MB hard drive space with a Pentium compatible processor.
