Will Vinton Studios Renders "Washed Up" SIGGRAPH 2002 Animation Theater Opener On RenderBOXX

BOXX Technologies, a leading developer and manufacturer of award-winning digital content creation systems for the entertainment and digital film industries announced today that Will Vinton Studios, a premiere dimensional character animation company and pioneer of Claymation(R), harnessed the rendering power of RenderBOXX for its animated short film "Washed Up," which will open the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater Computer Animation Festival in San Antonio.

BOXX (booth #19078) will be demonstrating the 3DBOXX and RenderBOXX with 3ds max, combustion, Maya and Softimage at SIGGRAPH 2002 in San Antonio, July 23-25, 2002.

"Washed Up" opens on an odd character who begins preparing for SIGGRAPH 2002 in San Antonio. In preparation for his trip, he dons his Texan finery - with one exception...

Vinton Studios's team of talented artists relied on an arsenal of software such as Maya, LightWave 3D, Deep Paint and Adobe Photoshop to design, paint and animate the short film, which was all rendered on a RenderBOXX render farm running Windows 2000. "The RenderBOXX machines were key to getting the project delivered," says John RA Benson, Head of Computer Graphics at Will Vinton Studios. "Down to the final minutes, there were scenes that had to be reanimated and rerendered for 'product placement' purposes. This pushed into schedules of other jobs, making the need for problem-free renders critical," continued Benson. "The BOXX machines were problem free and reliable. I just wish we had more of them."

See how Vinton Studios captures the spirit of the SIGGRAPH devotee in their delightful short film "Washed Up" in the SIGGRAPH Animation Theater, which opens on Monday July 21, 2002.
