Netilla Networks, Leading Supplier of SSL VPN Solutions, Wins Contract to Supply World's Largest Exhibition Organizer With Clientless Secure Remote Access
Market Wire, 20050229
INFOSECURITY EUROPE 2003 -- Reed Exhibitions, a division of the Reed Elsevier group and the world's largest trade show and exhibition organizer, has chosen Netilla(R) Networks, Inc. to deliver customized Windows-based applications via an SSL-based virtual private network (VPN) providing secure Web-based access without the limitations of a traditional IPSec VPN.
As the world's leading organizer of trade and consumer events and a portfolio of over 470 events in 29 countries -- including Infosecurity Europe 2003 -- Reed Exhibitions needed to securely provide a third-party supplier with access to a custom-developed Windows application without compromising the security of their network.

The requirement for granular application access was such that Reed considered offering its third party a cut-down version of its database to install on their own machines during the evaluation process. To deploy such a solution would have involved creating sub-sets of data, synchronization routines and a considerable investment in terms of resource and training.
Peter Lidgett, IT architect at Reed Exhibitions, explains, "As a progressive exhibition organizer, we needed to provide access to specific Reed systems for external booking agents. However, we wanted to avoid the expense and inconvenience of installing and managing client software on third-party machines and of course, the security implication of opening up our intellectual property to other companies was also a major concern."
Through LANsition, a specialist integrator and a UK Netilla channel partner, Reed evaluated the Netilla Service Platform. Peter Lidgett of Reed continues, "Fortunately, LANsition had the answer for us in the form of its Netilla remote access solution. Using the Netilla Service Platform, we are able to publish our customized Windows application to the booking agents without having to touch its clients or re-write our software."
By providing highly secure remote access to legacy applications using SSL encryption provided by standard Web browsers and the proprietary Netilla SecureRealm Framework(TM), the Netilla Service Platform met the pre-determined criteria Reed had identified; namely the ability to securely publish legacy applications, provide clientless deployment and be compatible with RSA SecurID without the 'all or nothing' approach of IPSec VPNs.
Peter Lidgett of Reed Exhibitions concludes, "Netilla is an excellent product and Reed is delighted with the service it has received from its UK partner, LANsition. The solution has simplified the booking process for the remote booking agent and provided us with a versatile and scaleable remote access solution for now and the future."
