EAS - The High Availability Problem Solver For MS Exchange
Market Wire, 20050229
One of the most advanced features evolves EAS from a purely archive solution to a technologically advanced backup and restore solution. EAS 2.0 now enables the mail administrator to restore a single message, a folder with specified messages, a group of folders or the users entire mail box. "This is significant", says Moffat, "We had clients with seasonal contractors, in for a few months, gone and then 2-4 months later back in to do additional work. With thousands of these types ofworkers, geographically dispersed, coming and going, the tracking and individual attention would have been too much effort. When a contractor stopped working for the organization, the mail account was eliminated. If they returned, going into backup tapes to restore the mail account (assuming it was even available) would have been a manual nightmare of epic proportions. With EAS, the contractor account is archived on their departure. When the contractor returns, the managersends a request to the mail administrator. With a few minutes and a couple of mouse clicks, the mail administrator has completed their portion of the task and EAS has automatically restored the full account."
"This can not be underplayed", states Dobaj, "EAS is going to challenge backups solutions to be more than just moving bits and bytes to a tape. There will always be a place for traditional tape backups, however, organizations require more. They need to be able to access and use the data/information that is being backed up." As EDUCOM evolves EAS, it is apparent that they are achieving new plateaus in information management. The features in EAS 2.0 will set benchmarks that others will strive to emulate. "I believe that EAS will be a catalyst for the cultural shift in how organizations deal with the intellectual property contained in their E-mail." Says Moffat.
