AgION Technologies Announces EPA Approval Of AgION(TM) Antimicrobial In Food Contact Articles

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently approved label amendments to the base product registration for AgION(TM) antimicrobial which will permit the product to be incorporated into food contact articles.
This is the first time the EPA has approved a silver-based antimicrobial for food contact uses. The products that can now use AgION(TM) antimicrobial, in accordance with the its label, include cutting boards, countertops, food and beverage processing equipment and appliances, food and drink containers, sinks, food wrap, dishes, flatware and even building materials and components.
"We are extremely excited about this approval because it means that virtually any product used in home and commercial kitchens or any commercial or home product that comes in contact with food or beverages can now have AgION(TM) antimicrobial incorporated into it," said Jonathan M. Katz, EVP of AgION Technologies and President of AgION Technologies Development Center. "This approval, we believe, represents our most exciting business opportunity in the consumer marketplace as well as in the food service industry."
Katz said that more than 50 of the company's customers and prospects have a meaningful need for products in this category.
AgION(TM) antimicrobial may also be incorporated into many products in addition to the food contact products to suppress the growth of microorganisms, such as, algae, fungus, mold, and mildew on the surface of the treated product.
