"M&M'S"(R) Chocolate Candies Get A Face-Lift
Market Wire, 20050229
M&M/MARS is putting its best face forward to pay homage to "M&M's"(R) most alluring Spokescandy - Green. In conjunction with "M&M's"(R) Chocolate Candies' 60th Anniversary, "M&M's"(R) revealed new printing technology that permits character faces to be printed on its signature green chocolate candies. For a limited time beginning this month, smart and sexy Green will be the only "M&M's"(R) in the bag to have her face printed on the candies.
The introduction of this proprietary printing technology answers not only the age-old question, "What is it about THE GREEN ONES(R)?" it is also history in the making. For the first time ever, something other than the traditional "M" will appear on "M&M's"(R) Chocolate Candies.
How it all Began
"M&M's"(R) Chocolate Candies were first introduced to the general public in 1941 and immediately became a favorite of American GIs serving in World War II. "M&M's"(R) were enjoyed by the military as a convenient snack that traveled well in any climate. By the late 1940's, they became widely available to the public, who gave them an excellent reception. Today, "M&M's"(R) are the world's most popular candies.
What is it about THE GREEN ONES(R)?
Green officially joined the pack of "M&M's"(R) in 1997, and is the first (and only) female "M&M's"(R) Spokescandy. This summer, Green has starred in three commercials to support the "What is it about THE GREEN ONES(R)?" campaign. The spots are titled "Outfit" (:30); "Trailer" (:30) and (:15); and "All Growed Up" (:30) and (:15). The campaign airs in movie theatres across the country via Screenvision as well as on national television including spots during prime time. Print advertising is also a part of the advertising campaign.
"Green has spent years in the bag with a bunch of male "M&M's"(R) and it's time for her to express her individuality and style," explained Michelle Weese, M&M/MARS spokesperson. "As a strong woman, Green always gets what she wants. If she didn't she wouldn't have been the first female "M&M's" Spokescandy and she certainly wouldn't be the only "M&M's" with a candy made just for her."
"There have always been rumors that there was something special about the green ones," said Green. "Now it's confirmed since my fabulous face will be printed on all green "M&M's"(R). Talk about delicious."
