Mother Goose and Paul Bunyan may be fictitious characters, but not Hungry Jack -- Hungry Jack 2002, that is. International Multifoods, the maker of Hungry Jack products, today announced that Chuck Buckman of Duncan, Okla., has been selected as the person most closely epitomizing the attributes of the legendary Hungry Jack character upon which the brand is based. And now, the next nationwide search is on: To find the ideal Hungry Jack of 2003.
You read it right. The ideal Hungry Jack lives. This news is not ripped from the tabloid headlines, it is straight from the source. Buckman, 32, was nominated by his wife, Heather, as the 2002 Hungry Jack -- as part of a contest sponsored by the Hungry Jack brand of products, including instant mashed potatoes and casserole potato mixes, pancake mixes and syrup.
"The Hungry Jack brand is known for its hearty, family-pleasing products," said Tammy Sturtz, Hungry Jack brand marketing manager. "For the second year, we are looking for someone who best exemplifies the qualities of the legendary character who shares the Hungry Jack brand name."

Legend has it that "Hungry Jack" was a renowned, hard-working, reliable lumberjack -- a person who loved the outdoors and who possessed a heart-of-gold and a great sense of fun, humor and adventure. This legendary adventurer also was said to have enjoyed the comfort of a warm and hearty meal to begin and end each day. Today's Hungry Jack products help make it easier to satisfy this kind of healthy appetite.
The traditional attributes of the legendary Hungry Jack character are alive and well in the 21st century, and Multifoods wants to find the next Hungry Jack role model -- someone who exhibits the same kind of hearty appetite and hard-working, big-hearted, charitable, fun-loving approach to life as the character who inspired the Hungry Jack brand. The ideal Hungry Jack of 2003 could easily be someone you know: your husband, daughter, teacher, grandmother or local repairman.
"We created the 'Who Is Your Hungry Jack?' contest to recognize a select few individuals who exhibit the characteristics of the legendary Hungry Jack and reward the people who help us find them," Sturtz said. "We are looking for people who work and play hard, and who are dependable, generous and adventurous with a hearty appetite for Hungry Jack products."

Not only does the winning nominee earn the notoriety of being Hungry Jack of 2003, but the person who nominates the winner in the "Who Is Your Hungry Jack?(TM)" contest receives a collection of prizes aimed at helping them enjoy the great outdoors. For the winning nominator of the 2003 contest, these prizes include:
