American University's Kogod School Of Business Breaks Into The Business Week Rankings Of Best In The Nation

Market Wire, 20050229

A business degree from American University's Kogod School of Business has just gotten more valuable. For the first time in the business school's history, and just 18 months after officially launching its effort to break into the business school rankings, Kogod has been added to the 2000 Business Week B- School Rankings.

"Instead of waiting for the new economy to come to Kogod, we went out and made it part of our School's DNA. Being placed on such a respected ranking recognizes our efforts. It is akin to getting into the music industry's top 40 and has profound implications for growth at the business school," said Myron Roomkin, Dean of the Kogod School of Business.

To align the school's business strategies with the new economy, Kogod made a decision to eliminate all print materials and focus entirely on the Internet to promote the business school's programs. Taking advantage of its location in the booming high tech economy of Washington, DC, Kogod has focused its efforts on serving the business community by revolutionizing traditional business education.

Dean Roomkin attributes the business school's rapid rise to the effort of the entire Kogod community. "We worked as a team. Everyone, from students to faculty, contributed and continue to play an important role in the school's success. I look forward to seeing us rise even higher in the near future."

Kogod applied the latest technology to its unique "web-centric" marketing strategy. A year ago, Kogod eliminated print material and began requiring all prospective graduate students to apply online. One hundred percent of current graduate applicants apply online, compared to the industry average of 30 percent.

By saving millions on printing costs, Kogod has been able to pour more resources into academics. Kogod's newest MBA concentrations Management of Global Information Technology (MoGIT) and Marketing Information and Technology also demonstrate the emphasis on the changing business environment in the digital age. Top leaders from AOL, Network Solutions and other new economy companies regularly share their experiences with students and bring the excitement of the real-world business practices into the classrooms.
