Gonzaga University Receives $34,213 Community Outreach Grant

Market Wire, 20050229

Gonzaga University has received a $34,213 grant to fund a new partnership between the university and the local United Way to link student service leaders with faculty advisers and community partners to develop innovative projects to serve the community.

The Gonzaga-United CORPS (Community Outreach Resource Peers for Service) project will receive $29,000 for student wages and $4,400 for administration.

The Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board, which awarded the grant, will support the project through the federally funded Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP) program, which allows a portion of the grant dollars that come to Washington State to be used for community service placements.

For more information call Sima Thorpe, director of Gonzaga's CCASL (Center for Community Action and Service Learning) program at (509) 323-6856.
