Gonzaga University Theatre To Make 'Joyful Noise'

Market Wire, 20050229

Tim Slover's "Joyful Noise" will be performed by the Gonzaga University(www.gonzaga.edu/) theatre program at 8 p.m. Oct. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 21.

"Joyful Noise" is the story of George Frederic Handel's writing of "The Messiah." The story features powdered wigs, sweet music and nasty cat fights. Handel hates his English audience. His singers hate each other.

His librettist hates his oratorio. His bishop hates making entertainment out of the Bible. And his king? The king sometimes wishes he were back in his own country - - Germany. In short, "The Messiah" is produced in spite of incredible obstacles. It's a carefully researched story, and the Gonzaga choir will sing the mini-oratorio that concludes the story. It's an irreverent take on classical composition that's not to be missed.
