Pimples On Prom Night!

Market Wire, May, 2002

High school prom season is here. Every high school student looks forward to this big social event of the year. But no teenager wants to face the prom with a face full of pimples. The effects of acne go beyond skin deep, impacting a teen's self-esteem, causing self-consciousness, embarrassment and even depression. Now, a famous former teen and a group of counselors are urging teens to get acne off their chest by writing about it, and get acne off their face by seeking treatment.

Christopher Knight, the "Eternal Teenager" who played Peter Brady on "The Brady Bunch," and the American Counseling Association are inviting high school seniors to submit a brief essay on "How Acne has Affected Yourself or a Friend." Those who enter will be eligible to win one of fifteen $1,000 Higher Education Grants to help fund their college studies.

Acne is the most common skin disorder in the U.S. Almost everyone between the ages of 12 and 17 will get an occasional pimple. More than 40 percent of teens will have acne serious enough to require a doctor's care.
