Market Wire, 20050229
Optisoft S.L., creator of popular P2P (Peer-to-Peer) file-sharing programs Blubster, Piolet and MP2P technologies, today announced Wayne Rosso has joined the firm as CEO. Prior to the appointment, Mr. Rosso served as president of Grokster (www.mp2p.net).
"Wayne brings a wealth of experience to Optisoft and we are very excited about what we will accomplish under his direction," said Pablo Soto, Optisoft S.L., founder and developer.
Under Mr. Rosso's management, Grokster experienced spectacular growth and a precedent-setting victory in federal court (MGM v. Grokster, et. al.) when it won a ruling declaring substantial noninfringing uses of P2P software, thus legitimizing this burgeoning industry.
"It is an honor to join such a progressive company and at such a pivotal time in history. Pablo's vision and ability to formulate a truly 21st Century technology is exciting, and I look forward to helping him develop the future of the entertainment marketplace," said Optisoft S.L. CEO Wayne Rosso.
Grokster founder Henry Wilson noted, "We have had an incredible relationship with Wayne and he's been an important part of the growth and success of our firm. This is an exciting, new direction for him and we look forward to continuing our close personal and professional ties."
Rosso, 54, is a 34-year veteran of the music and technology industries. He has been instrumental in the advancement of the careers of many recording artists, including Crosby, Stills & Nash; Aerosmith; Fleetwood Mac; Melissa Etheridge; Harry Connick, Jr.; and Bette Midler, among others. He has consulted major entertainment, technology and media companies, such as CBS Records, MCA Records, Island Records, Arista Records, Motown Records, Sony Music Video, BMG, RCA Records, and Westwood One (Infinity Broadcasting). While president of Grokster, he was a founding member of P2P United, the Washington, DC-based trade association for the peer to peer technology community.
Mr. Rosso graduated from The University of South Carolina in 1970 with a BA in English.
