DogFriendly.com (http://www.dogfriendly.com) announced its 2004 list of the Top 10 dog-friendly destinations in the United States and Canada. DogFriendly.com annually compiles this list for people who want to take their dogs with them on vacation. The rankings are determined by the DogFriendly.com staff and take into account the number and quality of dog-friendly accommodations, availability of interesting things to do with your dog, outdoor restaurants that allow dogs and public transportation that allows both small and large dogs. The 2003 rankings are shown in parenthesis.

1. Monterey-Carmel (7) Has a very dog-friendly attitude. Many dog-friendly accommodations, fine outdoor restaurants, dog-friendly beaches, a 5 mile coastal trail and boat tours that welcome dogs. Bonus points for not needing a car once in town.

2. Cape Cod-Nantucket (Not Ranked) Small and large dogs can fly in the cabin on the local airplanes, and are welcome on the ferries and shuttle buses. Also offers many dog-friendly inns and beaches.

3. Chicago (4) The top large city in the list with dog-friendly upscale hotels, boat and carriage tours and outdoor dining. Many establishments cater to dogs. An annual "Dog Day" White Sox Baseball game.

4. Seattle (Not Ranked): Your dog is welcome on public transportation like ferries, buses, street cars and a local airline. Nice dog-friendly hotels, outdoor restaurants and attractions.

5. Key West (2) Resort town has quaint pet-friendly inns, shopping district, outdoor dining and an aquarium that welcomes dogs inside.

6. Lake Tahoe (1) Great year-round mountain getaway with dog-friendly hikes , cross-country skiing and cabin rentals. Bonus points for having a dog-friendly river rafting adventure.

7. Toronto (Not Ranked) Dogs can ride the subways, buses and street cars in non-rush hours. Many dog-friendly places to visit and an amusement park where you can bring your pooch.

8. New York (8) Many pet-friendly upscale hotels, attractions, restaurants and even a dog painting gallery. Plus beautiful Central Park, a haven for city dogs.

9. Washington (6) Offers great opportunities for dog-friendly walks and sightseeing at the nation's capitol including monuments and memorials.

10. San Francisco (Not Ranked) Take part in some of the city's major tourist attractions like the Golden Gate Bridge walk and shopping at Union Square with your dog. Bonus points for the annual Dog Days of Summer Giants game.
