Wall Street News Alert's "stocks to watch" this morning are: Wellstone Filters Inc (OTC BB: WLSF), Women First HealthCare (NASDAQ: WFHC), AU Optronics Corp (NYSE: AUO) and Powerwave Technologies (NASDAQ: PWAV).
Aggressive investors will want to keep watching Wellstone Filters Inc (OTC BB: WLSF) again this morning! Yesterday after the markets closed, the company issued a press release announcing that it is rapidly approaching the final refinements of its compound for its patented filter that effectively removes carcinogens and other toxins produced when tobacco is smoked!
This could be great news for investors! According to the press release, within 30 days the company expects to have the new and selective batch of their compound to their prospective customers. Wellstone's Vice President of Research, Dr. John Smart, PhD is using this time to more fully explore refinements to the compound. Wellstone's compound has been under development for approximately 6 years and we are about 30 days away from delivery.
It is important to note that the company's unique compound is not subject to FDA scrutiny or approval. Wellstone believes that the FDA is establishing a presence in the tobacco industry and Wellstone is targeting a list of toxins that have been identified to be carcinogenic. Recent independent analysis shows that the Wellstone Filter can eliminate 25% of "across the board" carcinogenic compounds with a mere 50 milligrams of our granules. Even truly "lighter" cigarettes can be had by inserting more granules.
There are at least 60 carcinogens in cigarette smoke. Among these, tobacco-specific nitrosamines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are generally viewed to have an important role as causes of cancer. The company intends its customers to be major tobacco companies, tobacco research centers and filter manufacturers that want a compound that targets specific carcinogenic elements. They are currently working with tobacco research scientists to provide such a compound.
The stock closed yesterday at $1.21 a share.
In case you are unfamiliar with the company: Wellstone Filters, Inc. has developed and patented a filter that effectively removes carcinogens and other toxins produced when tobacco is smoked -- without removing the compounds responsible for the pleasurable effects of smoking. The company seeks to promote material for cigarette filters that will enable major cigarette manufacturers to provide consumers with an equally enjoyable cigarette with substantially fewer carcinogens. Keep your eyes on this company! For more information, please see Wellstonefilters.com.

Commentary: The Economy
"Mortgage rates, according to www.bankrate.com, continue to spiral downward. The 30-year rate averaged 5.41% last week, the 15-year rate was at 4.73%, and the adjust rate was at 3.42%. Is it any surprise that refinancing a mortgage is still a major trend in the first quarter of 2004," stated Sonja Rudd in Wall Street News Alert's daily commentary continued at: http://www.WallStreetNewsAlert.com.
