EVault Advances Online Backup and Recovery
Market Wire, April, 2005
STORAGE NETWORKING WORLD -- EVault, Inc., the leading provider of secure, online backup and recovery solutions, today announced significant advancements in its product line. Topping the list is the release of Version 5 of both its EVault InfoStage® online backup and recovery software and the EVault Protect managed service offering. EVault also announced a new reporting suite as well as new versions of its desktop agent and email archive solutions.
EVault InfoStage licensed software takes full advantage of disk-to-disk technology to cost-effectively back up data from all locations to a remote or centralized storage server. EVault Protect is EVault's managed online backup and recovery service that backs up an organization's business-critical data to a secure off-site data center managed by EVault or an authorized channel partner. Safely off-site, the encrypted data is available online at all times for immediate, user-initiated recovery.
"Whether motivated by fear, good business practices or compliance regulations, businesses recognize the need to move backed up copies of data off-site away from their primary location," says Mike Karp, senior analyst, Enterprise Management Associates. "Online backup and recovery solutions, such as EVault InfoStage and Protect, quickly and securely solve this problem, offering an automated and cost-effective alternative to traditional data protection solutions that require more manpower resources."
"As demand for online backup continues to grow, we have worked aggressively to increase the performance, depth, and scalability of our product suite," said Tony Barbagallo, senior vice president of marketing at EVault. "Our new offerings provide the widest range of business continuity solutions for the most demanding environments, further expanding EVault's leadership in the online backup and recovery market. Our customers and partners will be very excited with the new product lineup."
What's New in EVault InfoStage Version 5
EVault InfoStage Version 5 offers several new features and capability enhancements. These include:
-- Parallel restore -- simultaneous restores can be executed from the
same storage vault, speeding the recovery process of large numbers of files
or data from multiple backup sessions.
-- Advanced backup agents for Exchange, SQL, and Oracle -- these agents
offer improved delta block backup performance, finer granularity backups,
such as the ability to back up individual mailboxes, as well as one-pass
restores.
-- Add storage on the fly -- seamlessly scale up capacity of back-end
storage vaults or copy data between vaults without interruption or
performance degradation.
-- Integrated Vault Backup Agent -- backup data stored on the vault can
be easily migrated to disk, tape, or a second off-site storage vault using
EVault's superior delta block technology.
-- Industry-leading platform support -- EVault InfoStage Version 5 offers
expanded platform support for SUSE Linux and iSeries V5R3. EVault also
supports the leading server and desktop platforms including Windows,
Netware, Solaris, Red Hat Linux, HP-UX and IBM AIX.
-- Enhanced iSeries backups -- features a second hot backup method via
EVault's proprietary database trigger technology. Once a backup is
initiated and underway, the trigger recognizes database changes and creates
a snapshot in as little as two seconds regardless of database size.
Team Financial Deploys EVault InfoStage to Eliminate Cumbersome Tape Backup
Team Financial, a financial holding company in Paola, Kan., which owns two Midwest banks with 18 branch offices, has already adopted EVault InfoStage Version 5. The ability to centrally manage the remote office backups has significantly streamlined the entire data protection process for Team Financial. Prior to installing EVault InfoStage, administrators struggled to manage their tape-based backups across all the remote locations.
"It was a no-brainer when we considered the amount of time and money we were spending managing tapes," says David Moll, vice president of IT at Team Financial. "Eliminating tape from our backup and recovery process by using EVault InfoStage has resulted in a tremendous improvement in usability and management."
Additional Product News
In conjunction with the launch of EVault InfoStage Version 5, EVault also announced several new capabilities across its product line focused on delivering advanced reporting capabilities, desktop and laptop backup and email archiving.
EVault Reports(TM) is a new web-based tool used in conjunction with the EVault Protect managed service designed to help end-users and channel partners quickly access storage-related information about the backup and recovery process. EVault Reports provides greater operational efficiency through a series of reports including monitoring backup status by vault, groups or by customer, and determining storage capacity, including number of active backup safesets.
EVault Desktop(TM) agent simplifies the backup of desktops and laptop computers, extending the capability of the company's server backup and recovery solution. Offered as licensed software or as a managed service, EVault Desktop(TM) features as easy wizard-driven setup, automated backups, and user-initiated restores.
