Magnolia Broadband and EDOM Sign Key Distribution Agreement to Access the Growing China and Taiwan Markets
Market Wire, April, 2005
EDOM Technology, a leading Taiwanese-based semiconductor distributor, and Magnolia Broadband, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company and innovator of antenna diversity radio frequency (RF) solutions for the wireless industry, jointly announced today that they have signed a distribution agreement. The pact authorizes EDOM to sell, distribute and support Magnolia's diversity handset chipsets to original equipment manufacturers in the Taiwanese and Chinese markets.

The deployment of Magnolia's DiversityPlus chips in dual antenna cell phones will enable wireless carriers to serve twice as many subscribers within the same wireless infrastructure, eliminating the need for additional cell towers, while boosting coverage, data throughput and battery life. Additional benefits for carriers and consumers will include more reliable connections, fewer "dead zones," improved quality of service and a substantial lowering in the amount of energy the phone emits.
The EDOM distribution agreement adds to Magnolia Broadband's growing list of international distribution partners and closely follows recently announced deals with Uniquest of Korea and Macnica of Japan. The EDOM partnership further bolsters Magnolia's strategic plans of deploying the DiversityPlus technology in all major wireless markets (see Magnolia's most recent announcement: "Magnolia Broadband Announces Successful Completion of Prototype Handset Developed for SK Telecom") as it works towards commercialization.
"We look forward to representing Magnolia Broadband in the Chinese marketplace and are confident that our marketing presence will help the company to establish its handset diversity technology with key handset OEMs," said Wayne Tseng, EDOM's CEO and chairman. "We are confident that Magnolia's unique diversity solution is well suited for success in China and Taiwan's expanding and demanding telecom markets."
"As China becomes the largest wireless market, we are very pleased to have EDOM Technology in the forefront to assist us there," said Larry Wasylin, Magnolia's vice president of sales and marketing. "EDOM will undoubtedly provide Magnolia with the market savvyness we need to deploy our DiversityPlus technology in China. This is another strong endorsement of our technology coming from a leading regional distribution player."
DiversityPlus(TM) is a family of RF chipset products designed around Magnolia's unique algorithms for mobile terminals. About Magnolia Broadband
Magnolia is an innovative developer of semiconductors for the wireless industry and the first company to provide diversity antenna technology using unique RF chipset products that incorporate both transmit and receive diversity. By using a unique RF (Radio Frequency) chipset product and algorithm, it incorporates a novel way of combining RF signals from two antennae for both transmit and receive signals in the mobile terminal, enabling carriers to serve twice as many subscribers within the same wireless infrastructure while boosting phone coverage, data rates and battery performance. Carriers and consumers also benefit from more reliable connections and improved quality of service while having small impact on cost.
Leading CDMA carriers and mobile terminal manufacturers have tested Magnolia's technology. Since its inception in 2001, Magnolia has raised more than $30 million in capital from notable investors like Draper Fisher Jurvetson Gotham, ECentury Capital Partners, Intel Capital, SCP Private Equity Partners, Selway Partners and Silverstar Holdings. Magnolia has filed numerous patents related to its core technology and partnered with semiconductor industry notables such as Jazz Semiconductor, and Amkor Technology.
