C9 Networks Announces Unprecedented Migration Strategy for Wireless Broadband Applications at Cable-Tec Expo

Market Wire, June, 2005

C9 Networks, the leading provider of affordable leading-edge communications solutions for multiple service operators (MSOs), today announced an unprecedented migration strategy for cable operators looking to extend their service footprint with wireless technology. The C2000W CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) offers an immediate fixed wireless capability based on DOCSIS on Air today and can be later upgraded to WiMax, once WiMax is totally standardized. C9 Networks will showcase the C2000W at the Cable-Tec Expo (June 14-17) in San Antonio, Texas, at booth 136.

With the C2000W's current fixed wireless capability, MSOs can immediately increase their footprint and attract new subscribers by offering broadband services in areas where it has previously not been cost-effective to deploy cable infrastructure. The C2000W offers fixed, point-to-multipoint wireless technology that securely transports DOCSIS services to a cable modem. Fixed wireless fills in the gaps in the operator's network where cable simply does not reach, enabling MSOs to quickly and cost-effectively penetrate previously unreachable markets.

Offering the best of today's and tomorrow's technologies, the C2000W CMTS represents a future-proof investment for MSOs. As the IEEE802.16 standards group moves closer to completing the WiMax standard, C9 Networks will provide a WiMax solution to support the future approved standard. All existing customers will receive the upgrade to WiMax and C9 will buy back all the DOCSIS on Air base stations.

"Too often network operators must wait until a technology reaches final industry standardization before taking advantage of the benefits that technology brings. And rightly so, equipment purchases are too big an investment to be obsolete within 1-2 years," said Srini Kola, president and founder of C9 Networks. "However, at C9 Networks, we're offering a unique opportunity that enables cable operators to reap the benefits of fixed wireless technology today. They can reach new subscribers and increase their revenue base right now. And with the C2000W comes the peace of mind that the investment they have made today won't be obsolete tomorrow -- the C2000 CMTS will keep pace with industry standards and developments."

An industry pioneer in cable based broadband wireless services; C9 Networks is looking beyond DOCSIS over Air. They are set to shortly release a CMTS solution for the emerging IEEE 802.16 standard, also known as Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN). C9 Networks will offer a cost-effective upgrade path to allow its customers to take advantage of this state-of-the-art technology.
