Symantec's i3 for SQL Server, Backup Exec, NetBackup, LiveState Recovery, Storage Foundation High Availability (HA) for Windows, Enterprise Security Manager, and AntiVirus solutions have all been developed to work with SQL Server 2005. Symantec's solutions enable IT organizations to deliver enterprise-class security, availability, and performance for SQL Server 2005 environments.
"A growing number of enterprises are deploying SQL Server to support their mission critical applications," said Kris Hagerman, senior vice president, Storage and Server Management Group, Symantec. "Symantec offers SQL Server 2005 customers a broad suite of trusted, market-leading solutions that will help ensure their SQL Server 2005 data is secure, available, protected, and recoverable."
SQL Server 2005 is the next version of Microsoft's flagship database. It will focus heavily on enhancing three key areas, including enterprise data management, developer productivity, and business intelligence. This new version provides significant performance improvements over previous versions of SQL Server.
"One of the key objectives for SQL Server 2005 is to enable enterprises to have more control over their data management," said Paul Flessner, senior vice president for SQL Server at Microsoft. "Symantec and Microsoft have collaborated for years on the SQL Server platform. Symantec's solutions for SQL Server 2005 will provide security, availability and data management solutions that enhance the performance, security, and availability of the data center for large enterprise customers."
Application Performance Management
VERITAS i3 for SQL Server software, now from Symantec, is the first application performance management solution to support SQL Server 2005 databases. As enterprises increasingly adopt SQL Server 2005, i3 for SQL Server software will provide IT managers with a comprehensive set of end-to-end performance and service management tools to proactively monitor, analyze, and fine-tune their applications and maintain performance and availability levels for their organizations. The latest i3 for SQL Server offerings enable IT managers to set and maintain service levels for .Net applications and web services running on SQL Server 2005 databases.
Backup and Recovery
When it comes to SQL Server backup and recovery, NetBackup, Backup Exec, and LiveState Recovery software simplify database backup while increasing availability. VERITAS NetBackup, now from Symantec, delivers comprehensive data protection for SQL Server 2005. Organizations can centrally manage all aspects of backup and recovery for SQL Server database and non-database files through intuitive, graphical user interfaces (GUIs), allowing consistent, enterprise-wide backup policies. Additionally, Symantec Backup Exec delivers fast and dependable protection on 32- and 64-bit servers. Symantec LiveState Recovery helps ensure complete system and application recovery, including SQL Server databases.
Storage Management and High Availability
VERITAS Storage Foundation High Availability (HA) for Windows, now from Symantec, is an integrated stack of storage management, replication, and clustering software available today for Microsoft Windows environments. Symantec's integrated solution enables IT organizations to dynamically manage complex storage environments, seamlessly increase or reclaim unused storage capacity, and virtually eliminate application downtime through on-line storage management. Moreover, Storage Foundation HA for Windows helps ensure the continuous availability of mission-critical Windows-based systems, applications, and databases. In the event of an outage, Storage Foundation HA for Windows helps ensure that those systems are quickly and safely recoverable.
Security
Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) and Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) provide industry-leading security and compliance solutions for SQL Server, helping to ensure that an enterprise's data is protected from threats. ESM enables organizations to define, measure, and report on the compliance of information systems against security policies, standards, and government regulations -- all from a single console. Symantec ESM also integrates with Symantec Security Information Manager 9500 Series for patent-pending dynamic correlation of compliance information and security intelligence from Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System to help organizations proactively resolve issues before they become a threat to customer privacy and data integrity.
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition provides real-time virus and spyware for Exchange Server and SQL Server environments, along with protection for enterprise workstations and network servers, to enable enterprise-wide system uptime. This comprehensive solution combines award-winning technologies and Symantec's global response infrastructure to provide effective protection at every network tier, reduce overall cost of ownership, and help ensure data integrity. The solution uses a side-effect repair system to keep systems operational during security disruptions, while automatically detecting and repairing the effects of spyware, adware, viruses, and other malware.
