QualityLogic's Quick Start Program for XPS Format Attracts Nine Major Customers
Market Wire, November, 2005
Nine major printer OEMs and technology developers have signed on for QualityLogic's (www.qualitylogic.com) exclusive XPS Quick Start Program. They include Fuji Xerox Company, Ltd. (www.fujixerox.co.jp), Global Graphics (www.globalgraphics.com), and Zoran Corporation (www.zoran.com) among others.
Introduced in July 2005, XPS Quick Start allows early adopters to get a head start on developing comprehensive third-party tools for testing and printing XPS print output. XPS Document is Microsoft's new document and print format for its next client operating system, Windows Vista, which is scheduled for release in the second half of 2006. Third-party testing tools will enable the printer industry to accelerate development of qualified products that are compatible with the XPS format.
The Quick Start program includes beta and final release versions of QualityLogic's classic test tools for XPS, including an application test suite, a functional test suite and a comprehensive evaluation test. Participants receive two to three early releases of each test suite concurrent with early test builds of Windows Vista -- such as Community Technology Previews and Betas -- as well as with the Windows Vista final release to manufacturing (RTM). Participants will also be provided with a fully functional and tested set of the three Version 1.0 test suites; input on QualityLogic's test design and test development priorities; a hands-on tutorial on the XPS technology, testing strategies; and a full year of support after release of Version 1.0 test suites.
"We've delivered the first test suite with about 600 files, from 27 Win32 legacy applications, that have been converted to XPS files. These can be used to test early XPS printer implementations for compatibility with legacy application files," said Dave Jollota, QualityLogic COO. "We've also released the test specification for the XPS functional test suite for customer feedback, and we expect to release the first beta version by the end of 2005."
"Being part of the Quick Start program is very important to us because it will allow us to greatly accelerate our XPS program," said Tadashi Mimura, Fuji Xerox Group Manager for Controller Software Development, Office Products Business Group. "QualityLogic has an excellent reputation and track record, and this strategic relationship will be key to the timely delivery of XPS-compatible printers."
"XPS will be an integral part of the print infrastructure in Windows Vista, and customers will truly see the benefit of XPS if XPS-enabled printers and print drivers are widely available when Windows Vista launches," said Vicki Milton, technical product planner of the Digital Documents Platform and Solutions Group at Microsoft. "QualityLogic's industry-standard test suites for XPS will help ensure that the industry can deliver high-quality XPS printing implementations. Their XPS Quick Start program is a great way to accelerate that delivery."
