Wayne Newton Heralds in the Holidays in Vegas With 60-Foot Tree Lighting Ceremony on The Strip
Market Wire, November, 2005
In a city that glitters 365 days a year, "Mr. Las Vegas" Wayne Newton lit a 60-foot Christmas tree at Caesars Palace to herald in the holidays in the Entertainment Capital of the World. The ceremony took place Monday, Nov. 28, at the famed resort's front fountains that face the Strip. Acclaimed entertainer Wayne Newton -- who is headlining a holiday production at the nearby Flamingo hotel/casino in December -- officiated at the ceremonies.
Caesars Palace Christmas Tree Facts:
-- The replica Rocky Mountain Pine tree is 60 feet tall with a base diameter of 30 feet.
-- It has more than 1,000 branches and weighs 11,500 pounds.
-- The tree requires 300 amps of electricity, glowing with 15,000 watts from the 216,510 twinkling multi-colored lights -- more than twice as many lights as the Christmas tree in New York's Rockefeller Center.
-- The tree will be surrounded by simulated candles covering the fountains in floating pods; the two-dozen cypress trees lining the front lawn and 20 olive trees on the Roman Plaza will be lit with white holiday lights.
-- The six-story tree is the centerpiece of an extensive array of festive decorations on display at the famed resort through early January 2006 that include dozens of Christmas trees, 12-foot wreaths, more than 1,200 feet of garland and almost one mile of holiday lights.
