Adaptec Enhances Data Protection for Its Award-Winning Snap Server Workgroup Product Line
Market Wire, February, 2006
Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced the availability of the latest version of its Server-to-Server (S2S) Synchronization replication software. The enhanced version of this popular software now provides data protection across the entire Snap Server product line, including data stored on any Snap Server workgroup system powered by SnapOS. For customers purchasing new Snap Server 1100s, 2200s or 4100s, as well as the 150,000 customers who have already installed SnapOS-powered Snap Servers, S2S Synchronization version 2 (v2) enables simple data movement and protection to and from any pair of SnapOS- or GuardianOS-powered Snap Servers located on the local area network (LAN). With an easy-to-use management interface and a broad set of data protection features, replicating file data stored on Snap Servers has never been easier.
"In our business, you have to save everything and make sure that it remains secure and available. When our storage requirements took off due to a rising number of cases, it forced us to adjust how we stored, backed up, and protected our data," said David Roden, director of technology at Goodell, DeVries, Leech and Dann, a mid-sized legal firm. "We've been very happy with the Adaptec Server-to-Server Synchronization software. The Snap Servers together with the S2S Synchronization software reduced the time it takes to back up data by 50 percent and provide us with significant savings in ongoing storage costs. It's been a great solution for our firm."
S2S Synchronization v2 allows businesses to easily and efficiently create effective replication and backup of business data between synchronized SnapOS and GuardianOS Snap Servers without significant network bandwidth. S2S Synchronization only replicates the changed bytes of data within a file to minimize network traffic during data replication. In addition, S2S gives administrators flexible scheduling options for replication and backup of data at various intervals including near real-time, every few minutes, hourly, or daily. If the source server is unavailable, local and remote users can directly access replicated data stored on a backup server, without IT intervention.
"Companies need to know that their business data is protected and available at all times. Many workgroups or small businesses have several servers or locations and require data to be moved and replicated between multiple Snap Servers. S2S Synchronization was designed to meet the needs of these customers and provide them with simple and reliable data protection and disaster recovery at an affordable price point," said Mark Pollard, vice president of marketing for the Storage Systems and Solutions Group at Adaptec. "We are excited to offer our customers additional features and functionality that give them a flexible, cost effective solution for Snap Server synchronization and data replication."
Adaptec offers a family of data protection and disaster recovery software that includes S2S Synchronization v2 for simplified data replication, flexible scheduling, and nearline backup of stored data, as well as Snap EDR, a high-performance, network-optimized data replication and management software suite that provides a framework for data control and movement throughout the enterprise.
