American Presidents Share a Passion for Ice Cream

Market Wire, February, 2006

No president wants to go down a rocky road, unless they're deep into a carton of ice cream, that is. Throughout history, American presidents have had a passion for ice cream, including Abraham Lincoln, who served both Lemon and White Coffee ice cream at his second inauguration, and George Washington, who spent $200 on ice cream during the summer of 1790.

In 1790, $200 was an outrageous sum of money, considering the average American's annual income was a mere $60. Add in the fact that the ice cream-making process was grueling (it took two large bowls, lots of ice, salt and almost an hour of shaking one bowl while stirring the other), it's clear to see that the White House is the right house when it comes to the frozen dessert.

The presidential passion for quality ice cream is a tradition that continues today. Even George W. Bush cast a vote for pralines and cream when asked about his favorite flavor. The President's choice holds true to his Texas roots, as pralines are simply candied pecans and the pecan tree is the official state tree of Texas.

"MaggieMoo's Ice Cream Treateries have flavors to satisfy even the most prestigious of palates," said Jon Jameson, CEO of MaggieMoo's International. "Ice cream lovers can design their own flavors, such as freshly made Udderly Cream ice cream mixed with toasted pecans to create the ultimate pralines and cream desert, or they can toast George Washington with a scoop of black cherry ice cream with chunks of chocolate mixed in."

There's no better way to spend President's Day than by enjoying fresh, super premium ice cream just like the nation's presidents. And don't worry Mr. Washington -- no cherry trees were harmed in the making of MaggieMoo's black cherry ice cream.
