Fujitsu and Secured Services Combine Biometric and Identity Management Authentication
Market Wire, March, 2006
Secured Services Inc. (OTC BB: SSVC) and Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and biometric security solutions, have successfully certified the Fujitsu PalmSecure(TM) biometric authentication device for SecuredUser, an identity management solution offering multifactor authentication, single sign-on and provisioning.
Fujitsu PalmSecure has been the recipient of numerous accolades since it was launched in June 2005, including the 2005 Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award for Network Security and the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) "Best of Innovations" Award for Biometrics. Leveraging more than twenty years of industry leading image recognition and processing expertise, Fujitsu developed PalmSecure to address the growing demand for a highly accurate (1), user friendly biometric security solution. The device works by capturing an image of the internal palm vein pattern and then, using a propriety algorithm, verifying that image against a pre-registered template for authentication.
"For a variety of high security applications, PalmSecure is the perfect method of making certain the user's identity is accurate," stated Dale Quick, president and chief executive officer, Secured Services. "And it fits well with our vision that identity management systems should be both affordable and easy to implement and use."
Fujitsu recently announced the next version of its PalmSecure application from the CeBIT technology conference in Hannover, Germany. The next generation product offers an increased authentication rate and a significantly reduced form factor, resulting in greater flexibility and ease of implementation in applications ranging from ATMs and room access security systems, to PC login systems and other solutions that will require highly secure authentication.
Fujitsu PalmSecure applications span several vertical markets, including security, financial/banking, access control, healthcare and government applications. Deployment of the Fujitsu PalmSecure is widespread in Japan with more than 10,000 sensors already in use at banks, universities, private condominiums and hospitals.
"Working together with Secured Services allows Fujitsu to provide both a unique biometric technology in PalmSecure and the identity management platform that allows single sign-on capabilities for a wide range of applications," said Joel Hagberg, vice president, marketing and business development, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "The biometric industry will experience dramatic growth in the coming years, and partners like Secured Services are important to us as we seek to work with our customers in developing biometric applications that solve real-world security challenges."
