New Search Appliance Available via GSA Schedule
Market Wire, March, 2006
Government agencies have an economical new solution for searching their web sites and intra-nets. The Thunderstone Search Appliance SBE (Small Business Edition) now is listed on the Information Technology Schedule of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).
The Search Appliance SBE provides a turn-key solution for indexing many document formats including word processing; PDFs; presentations; and most anything found on the web. It indexes up to 100,000 documents or web pages for a total investment of only $4,529 including two years of support.
A GSA Schedule listing provides government buyers a pre-negotiated best price that automatically satisfies competitive bidding requirements. Most U.S. federal agencies and some state and local governments may purchase through the GSA Schedule, also known as Federal Supply Service.
According to numerous studies, office workers spend large proportions of their time -- as much as 30% -- trying to locate information. The Thunderstone Search Appliance SBE can dramatically reduce this figure and have a direct positive impact on an organization's ability to accomplish its mission.
Thunderstone Search Appliances were rated a "Great Choice" and praised for "simplicity, low cost of ownership, and extensibility" in a recent independent analysis by the Patricia Seybold Group.
The Search Appliance SBE can be administered by a non-technical user and is extensively customizable. It offers many features not found in competitor appliances, including the ability to:
-- Index any third-party information from the internet.
-- Perform "wildcard" searches ("*" character ignored by other
appliances).
-- Add or remove documents from the index instantly.
-- Crawl file systems directly without webserver software.
-- Combine results from multiple collections ("metasearch").
-- Index JavaScript and Flash content.
-- Raise capacity by remote upgrade.
The Search Appliance SBE contains most features of Thunderstone's enterprise-level versions. The SBE optionally can be upgraded to a 250,000- or 500,000-document enterprise version. Thunderstone's enterprise Search Appliance models also are sold through GSA.
