Mr. Olympia, Phil Busch, Takes on Viacom, Comedy Central's Jon Stewart, Pat Robertson and CBN From Misuse of Image
Market Wire, March, 2006
Phil Busch, Mr. Olympia, is used to taking on huge challenges and this one is no different. Busch has filled a lawsuit against Viacom, MTV d/b/a Comedy Central and Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" for misuse of his image. Busch was misrepresented, as a sponsor of a Diet Shake distributed by well-known televangelist Pat Robertson. Busch has been battling Pat Robertson in Federal Court for similar misrepresentation since August 2005. Busch has filed the lawsuit because Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" portrayed Mr. Busch as a sponsor and spokesperson for Pat's Diet Shake, when in fact if research were done properly, Comedy Central would have found that an ongoing lawsuit is in progress in Dallas Federal Court.
Busch who is representing himself against Robertson has won a major victory in Federal Courts in Dallas and Virginia. Both motions were attempts to put a Gag Order on Busch and his website, in order to try and keep the story from going to the public. The judges shut both motions down and their attempt to say Busch has no 1st Amendment rights.
Busch says that Viacom and Comedy Central have joined with Pat Robertson and CBN to attack the personal beliefs and misappropriate the images of people in order to make money for their own personal gain. Summing up Busch's comments, "It's kind of funny that Pat Robertson and Jon Stewart think they can say anything they want about world leaders, religions, and anyone else on their television shows but they rush to the courthouse to prevent one regular guy from posting something they don't like on a website." Busch's final comment "They think they can run over me and call it comedy or just business, well I have news for them, the bigger they are the harder they fall."
