New eCopy Software Enables Easy Integration of Paper Documents Into Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies

eCopy, Inc. today introduced the eCopy Connector for Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies, making it easy for any office worker to scan documents directly into the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and Windows SharePoint Services environments from a digital copier. The eCopy Connector enables organizations to bring hardcopy documents previously outside electronic workflows into SharePoint-based environments, improving collaboration and information sharing.

One of the essential ingredients to effective collaboration is to ensure all users have access to complete document repositories, and the information most often excluded in the past was stored in file cabinets on paper documents. The eCopy Connector for SharePoint Portal Server 2003 enables any office worker to easily index and store paper-based information to SharePoint while at the network-attached copier. Among the powerful features provided by the eCopy Connector for SharePoint Portal Server 2003 are:

--  Security: By validating the user at the copier, the eCopy Connector
    maintains an audit trail to the individual using the copier and not just to
    the device -- helping organizations guard against unauthorized document
    distribution. The software also uses the secure sockets layer (SSL) open
    security standard, encrypting any scanned document sent over a corporate
    network or the Internet.

--  Low cost of ownership: With its innovative design, the eCopy Connector
    operates at the copier as another client in a Windows SharePoint Portal
    Server 2003 environment. Set up and administration is as simple and fast as
    it is with any other SharePoint Portal Server 2003 user on the customer's
    network, helping to keep demands on scarce IT resources to a minimum.

--  Unique user interface: The eCopy Connector identifies unique
    individual users, granting them the same access to their SharePoint sites
    at the copier as at their desktops. This means users can access recently-
    used libraries or folders with one touch so documents can be stored
    quickly, but users can only access authorized libraries or folders.

--  Preview documents: To eliminate scanning errors and ensure image
    quality, users can preview scanned documents using a touch screen at the
    copier, enabling organizations to shred paper documents with confidence
    once they are saved electronically.
