Impsat Significantly Increases Its Access to Internet in the United States of America
Market Wire, April, 2006
NYIIX, the New York metro area's largest public and private peering exchange, and Latin America's leading carrier and provider of IP-based connectivity and services, Impsat Fiber Networks, signed an agreement to increase bandwidth access between the Americas. The NYIIX member's move to 1GigE was in response to growing traffic volume and demand for faster connectivity.
TELEHOUSE America, which operates NYIIX, also joined forces with Impsat. A cooperative partnership now makes each company's products and services available to the other's respective clients.
Impsat provides private telecommunications network, telephony, data center and Internet services in Latin America. The company offers integrated data, voice and Internet solutions, emphasizing broadband transmission for national and multinational companies, financial institutions, governmental agencies and other business customers. Along with its operations in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Peru and the United States, Impsat also provides services in other countries in Latin America. It operates 15 metropolitan area networks in some of Latin America's largest cities, including Buenos Aires, Bogota, Caracas and Sao Paulo. They also own an extensive pan-Latin American broadband network combining fiber optic and satellite technology that includes 16 state-of-the-art Datacenters.
The New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX), in the BROADWAY Center at 25 Broadway ("25B"), is one of the largest neutral Internet exchange points in the U.S. Traffic volume tops 14Gbps, advanced by '05's twenty percent membership gain and numerous member upgrades to 10GigE. Via NYIIX's seamless fabric, 80 members, together with enterprise and carrier clients, immediately benefit from access to Impsat's Latin American connections via its 1GigE bandwidth. At 25B 200-plus companies can extend their peering options; connecting with over 200 enterprise and carrier customers at 111 8th Avenue and over 200 at 60 Hudson Street. NYIIX is New York City's only exchange offering members a 10GigE interface speed from all three carrier hotels.
Juan Carlos Martinez, Senior Vice President responsible for the Internet Business of Impsat said, "We are very pleased to work with TELEHOUSE America in order to increase our IP backbone performance. A strong presence in the U.S. extends Impsat's high performance IP network reach, one of Latin America's largest and best recognized. "Impsat's increasing their NYIIX bandwidth capacity highlights the growing demand for greater accessibility between the Americas. It is a major step forward for our Internet exchange.
