Major Academic Institutions Select Codian's IP Video Conferencing Infrastucture Products
Market Wire, May, 2006
SPRING 2006 INTEROP Booth #1941 -- Codian, a leading manufacturer of video conferencing products for today's IP-based communications environments, announced today at the Interop Las Vegas Conference that Cambridge University eScience Centre and Indiana University have selected Codian's video conferencing infrastructure to advance collaboration and information sharing.
According to David Holloway, CEO of Codian, top-tier research and academic institutions globally have successfully deployed Codian equipment to improve collaboration, communication and productivity among faculty, students and the broader communities they serve.
"Academic institutions are typically very selective about their communications equipment, in part because they need superior performance along with flexibility and smooth deployment and also because they are very budget conscious," said Codian's Holloway. "Our solution successfully meets these requirements head-on, and as a result there has been increasing adoption of Codian in this very important vertical market."
Cambridge University eScience Centre is an excellent example of a research environment in which advanced video conferencing technology can significantly enhance scientific collaboration. Cambridge is a key member of the CancerGrid project, a consortium of oncology and information technology experts from five leading universities in the United Kingdom.
The Codian MCU deployment at Cambridge University eScience Centre provides CancerGrid participants with a high-performance, easy-to-use, endpoint agnostic video conferencing infrastructure that facilitates collaboration and sharing of imaging data.
"Once we saw Codian's solution, we knew it was exactly what we needed in a high-performance, flexible video conferencing solution," said Kate Caldwell, Telemedicine Developer at Cambridge University eScience Centre.
According to Caldwell, no other solutions on the market today match the performance, flexibility and cost effectiveness of Codian products. "Frankly, we've been a bit surprised by the lack of development with other solutions. Codian offers incredible value compared with other choices."
In addition to Cambridge, Codian's video conferencing solution is also installed at Indiana University. Indiana University's Information Technology Services Department has a long history of utilizing advanced media technologies that have improved interconnectivity, increased efficiency and advanced the University's research and academic initiatives.
With the Codian multimedia conference unit (MCU), Indiana University has a robust, expandable video conferencing solution that allows thousands of users at various locations to schedule their own meetings on demand and on an ad-hoc basis.
According to Kirt Guinn, manager of Digital Media Network Services at Indiana University, his organization's productivity has greatly increased since deployment of the Codian product.
"Our Codian MCU empowers our administrative meeting clients to handle their own scheduling, which eliminates the need for scheduling services while drastically reducing the number of scheduling errors. In addition, because the Codian solution is end-point agnostic, it is ideal for institutions like ours where there is a large, diverse user base in multiple locations."
