CBS 3's 'Women of Eyewitness News' Lead Line-Up of Media Personalities Hosting 16th Annual 'Race For The Cure' Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14
Market Wire, May, 2006
CBS 3's "Women of Eyewitness News" will be out in full force in Philadelphia on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14 leading an all-star line-up of local media personalities hosting the 16th Annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Philadelphia Race For The Cure®. The Race begins at 8:15 a.m. at Eakins Oval just outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Susan Barnett, Pat Ciarrocchi, Carol Erickson, Alycia Lane, Kathy Orr, Angela Russell, Stephanie Stahl, Mary Stoker Smith and Lesley Van Arsdall will host the annual 5-K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run to raise money in support of breast cancer research and education. The CBS 3 team will be joined by Howard Eskin of SportsRadio 610 WIP, Valerie Knight of 98.1 WOGL, Dom Giordano of The Big Talker 1210AM WPHT, Tanya of 94.1 Free FM WYSP and B-101 Morning team Chris McCoy and Tiffany Hill. UPN 57's U Crew -- Justin Dugan, Ashley Harder and Sean Scott -- will also join the Race as hosts this year for the first time.
CBS 3/UPN 57 President and General Manager Michael Colleran and his family will lead the station team participating in the Race. This year the station is dedicating its run and on-air efforts to the memory of Geaneen Rutledge Buford, the station's public affairs director until 2004. Buford lost her 17-month battle with breast cancer late last month. "Like many families in the Delaware Valley, our station family has been personally touched by this terrible disease. It has only strengthened our commitment to the cause," Colleran says. "Until there is a cure, we will be out in full force every Mother's Day."
All seven of the CBS stations in the Philadelphia market -- CBS 3 (KYW-TV), UPN 57 (WPSG-TV), KYW Newsradio 1060, 98.1 WOGL, 94 Free FM WYSP, SportsRadio 610 WIP and The Big Talker 1210AM WPHT -- are sponsors of the Race, now the largest fundraiser of its kind in Philadelphia. In addition, B-101 has joined the media line-up. All of the stations will be airing public service announcements, special news reports and other programming leading up to Mother's Day to raise awareness of the event.
CBS 3's "Eyewitness News" will feature stories about the latest technologies being used to fight the disease as well as profiles of survivors all week leading up to the Race. On Thursday, May 11th the station, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, will host a phone bank of experts -- including some of the top doctors in the field -- in its studios from 4 to 7 p.m. They will be available to answer viewer questions at 877-KYW3-ASK (877-599-3275).
In addition, CBS 3 will provide special coverage of the Race live from Eakins Oval in this Sunday morning newscasts airing 5:30 to 9 a.m. with a wrap-up from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
More than 40,000 people participated in last year's Race For The Cure, which raised in excess of $3 million in the fight against breast cancer. The Komen Philadelphia Race For The Cure® is hosted by the Philadelphia Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. For information about the Race, call (215) 238-8900 or log on to www.cbs3.com which is "Always On."
CBS 3 and the "Women of Eyewitness News" will continue their efforts in support of breast cancer education on-air and through community events throughout the year. CBS 3 acknowledges the support of Raymour & Flanigan in its Race For The Cure campaign.
