Ingate MEDIAtor Expands Microsoft LCS Capabilities Beyond IM for Remote Users
Market Wire, May, 2006
VON EUROPE SPRING -- Ingate® Systems ( www.ingate.com ), which develops firewall technology and products that enable SIP-based live communication for the enterprise while maintaining control and security at the network edge, launches the MEDIAtor, a configuration of the Ingate SIParator® that enables companies using a Microsoft Live Communications Server (LCS) Access Proxy to support media traversal for Federated and Remote users.
Ingate MEDIAtor, in combination with the Ingate Remote SIP Connectivity software module, extends the use of all Live Communications functions like Internet telephony, video, etc. even for those enterprises using an Access Proxy to outside the company or Local Area Network (LAN). Now branch offices or even remote employees working from home, on the road can leverage the productivity-enhancing benefits of SIP-based communications from any location, as long as there's access to the Internet.
Currently, LCS-enabled networks that incorporate an access proxy are unable to use voice (VoIP), video or any of the wide array of IP-based applications other than IM and presence when communicating outside the company. This is because the Access Proxy handles SIP signaling and authentication only -- not media. As a result, an Access Proxy can only handle IM and presence.
For those LCS networks without an Access Proxy, the Ingate SIParator with Ingate Remote SIP Connectivity software module extends the full capabilities of IP communications (voice, etc.) to users outside the company.
"This is yet another way Ingate adds value to Microsoft LCS," said Olle Westerberg, Chief Executive Officer, Ingate Systems. "Now, regardless of whether an Access Proxy is present on the network, remote users, satellite offices etc. can leverage all of the capabilities of SIP-based communications, including voice, using either Ingate MEDIAtor or an award-winning Ingate SIParator with Remote SIP Connectivity."
Benefits:
-- Increase productivity for enterprises that are geographically
separated as all employees can use all realtime IP applications, not just
presence and IM, when communicating with others outside their own office.
-- Enable remote users working while traveling, or those located in
branch offices etc. to make full use of the features of their corporate
Microsoft Live Communications server.
-- Enable enterprises to communication using voice, video etc, when
communicating with partners, customers and vendors etc. (within a
federation).
-- Secure privacy of all Microsoft realtime communications and prevent
eavesdropping, as Ingate supports MTLS and SRTP.
-- Maintain high voice quality using Ingate's Quality of Service
functionality.
