Dr. Lloyd Axworthy and John H. Bowles Elected to HudBay Board of Directors

HudBay Minerals Inc. (TSX: HBM) ("HudBay") announces the election of Dr. Lloyd Axworthy and John H. Bowles to its Board of Directors, effective June 1, 2006.
Dr. Axworthy was a member of the House of Commons of Canada for 21 years, including five years as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 2003, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada and is currently the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winnipeg.
John Bowles is a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Vancouver and is the leader of their British Columbia mining practice. His chartered accountancy designation was obtained in 1970, and he was awarded a Fellowship in 1997. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum. He will be retiring from PricewaterhouseCoopers on June 30, 2006.
Commenting on the appointments, Peter R. Jones, President and CEO of HudBay said: "We are delighted Lloyd and John have joined our Board. We will benefit greatly from their wealth of knowledge and experience."
James Ashcroft and Richard Brissenden chose not stand for re-election to the Board. HudBay is indebted to them for their outstanding contributions.
