Fujitsu Announces Fifth Generation of Top-Selling Convertible Tablet PC
Market Wire, June, 2006
Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation today announced the LifeBook® T4210 Tablet PC, the fifth generation of its best-selling convertible. The only convertible Tablet PC on the market with a built-in modular bay that supports an optical drive or an additional battery, the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC is further distinguished by the industry's first bi-directional display hinge offering the ability to turn the screen in both directions for added convenience and flexibility.
Powered by the Intel® Core(TM) Duo Processor, along with the enhanced functionality of Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC combines the convenience and familiarity of a notebook with the powerful and versatile functionality of a slate Tablet PC.
In conventional notebook mode, the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC offers a keyboard for typing. Rotate and fold the screen down and the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC transforms into a tablet configuration for pen-driven navigation through forms, or use the stylus to make handwritten notes and drawings with digital ink. The enhanced stylus of the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC includes two buttons and a built-in eraser for added convenience. The stylus and active digitizer continue to work in the notebook configuration.
"Fujitsu continues to evolve the convertible Tablet PC category with features that improve the user experience and performance enhancements that drive increased productivity," said Paul Moore, Sr. Director of Mobile Product Marketing, Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation. "Whether it's swapping the DVD for an additional battery or turning the display in either direction, the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC offers unsurpassed flexibility allowing mobile professionals to work exactly the way they want without compromise."
Maximum usability is achieved with features including the built-in modular bay, which offers the exclusive support for a second battery to accommodate long workdays and plane trips, or an optical drive for viewing digital media or archiving data. Alternatively, a weight saver inserted into the bay reduces the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC weight to an ultra-light 4.2 pounds.
The LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC is equipped with a bright 12.1-inch XGA display offering greater than a 160 degree viewing angle both vertically and horizontally. An optional indoor/outdoor display is also available. The LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC keeps up with a busy workday delivering up to 6.5 hours(1) of battery life with the main battery or up to 11 hours(1) with dual batteries. It also houses an array of ports for connecting peripherals directly, and an optional port replicator with hot-docking capability which offers convenient access to desktop peripherals. Another industry first for the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC is the adoption of dual digital microphones, which combined with a noise cancellation feature makes it ideal for VoIP, dictation or other speech driven applications.
The LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC added to its already robust set of security features an embedded BIOS support for Absolute Software Corporation's Computrace theft protection and secure asset tracking solutions(2). Combined with integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 to protect data and authenticate users, dedicated SmartCard slot, integrated biometric fingerprint swipe sensor, exclusive Fujitsu Security Panel with 800,000 possible password combinations, and two-level hard disk drive password protection, the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC delivers iron-clad security to protect user data and limit access to those with clearance. For added protection against occasional slips, the hard disk is configured with 3 G-force accelerometers that withdraw the heads from the drive when a free fall, vibration or sudden impact is sensed, securing the integrity of the data. The sensitivity level can be adjusted to accommodate various usage environments.
Through innovation and control of manufacturing, Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation creates some of the highest quality and reliable products offered in the PC market. A new spill-resistant keyboard combined with a patent-pending BayLock(TM) utility, which automatically locks the media drive from spinning or accidental ejection during tablet mode protecting both the drive and the media inside, keeps the LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC up and running.
Easily connect to the office network or the Internet with integrated Ethernet LAN, modem, a Wi-Fi Certified wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g) or optional Atheros Super AG® wireless LAN. The LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC comes equipped with diversity antennas mounted in the display panel to achieve high data transfer rates and strong connection reliability. It can also be equipped with integrated Bluetooth for convenient wireless connections to Bluetooth-enable devices including cellular phones or PDAs.

The LifeBook T4210 Tablet PC, priced starting at $1,729(3) for a base configuration is immediately available through the Fujitsu direct sales force, website, channel partners and select retail outlets(4).
