Gartner Report: IBM Maintains Worldwide Market Share Leadership in IT Operations Management Software
Market Wire, June, 2006
IBM today announced that analyst firm Gartner, Inc. has ranked IBM as the worldwide market share leader in the IT operations management software marketplace based on total software revenue for 2005. This marks the fifth consecutive year that IBM maintained its leadership in the IT operations management software market.
According to the independent report, IBM was the leading market share vendor in total software revenue with 24.2 percent market share, nearly double the share of its nearest competitor. According to Gartner, the worldwide IT operations management software market grew 12.6 percent in 2005 to more than $9.9 billion.
"The fact that we continue to be ranked number one by Gartner in this space speaks to our intense focus on helping customers ease the burden of managing their increasingly complex IT environments," said Al Zollar, general manager, IBM Tivoli software.
Also on the IT management front, later this month IBM will release a new portfolio of IT service management software products designed to help customers fight rising IT costs and manage constant change brought on by security threats and the demand to stay competitive in the marketplace. The products -- the IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database and three types of IBM Tivoli Process Manager software -- automate some of the most challenging processes associated with managing a complex IT environment, such as managing storage devices, addressing IT failures, and deploying new software releases and patches.
IBM is also taking a leadership role in developing standards for Configuration Management Databases (CMDBs), teaming with other industry leaders to improve the way IT information is shared and used. The companies plan to submit a draft specification to an industry standards organization later this year.
Gartner's Market Share Report analyzes the total software revenue for vendors in the IT operations management software space. The Gartner market statistics report is entitled "Market Share: IT Operations Management Software, Worldwide, 2005" and is authored by Ruggero Contu. Gartner is a leading provider of research and analysis on the global information technology industry.
