Sit Means Sit: 'No Limitations' Trainer Gives Hurricane Katrina Rescue Pup A New 'Leash' On Life

Market Wire, July, 2006

Discovered amidst the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, 'Hurricane' - a 38 lb pit bull - was initially believed "vicious and un-adoptable" until No Limitations trainer Toni Drugmand of DOG-ON-IT Training took him in and gave him his own fairy 'tail' beginning. After experiencing Hurricane's stamina, alertness and ability to learn quickly, Drugmand realized that this canine was not only a survivor, but could even be a hero to others as part of a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue team in Pennsylvania.

"Not vicious and very adoptable. Not only is Hurricane the 38 lb pit-cross not vicious, he shows the kind of temperament and stable personality traits that I would recommend be put to use for something as honorable and trustworthy a task as search and rescue work," said trainer Toni Drugmand. "Amidst all of the devastation and destruction, this little dog represents something good to come out of Hurricane Katrina. The rescued becomes the rescuer! Hopefully this is not a perfect ending to Hurricane's story, but rather a perfect new beginning."

Under the training of Lisa Hartford, another Sit Means Sit and No Limitations Trainer, Hurricane will work as member of Pennsylvania Task Force I (PATF1), a FEMA urban search and rescue team. According to FEMA, canines are a primary and significant 'tool' in search and rescue due to their speed, accuracy and large area of coverage.
