Alpha Kappa Alpha Member and DaimlerChrysler Representative to Throw Out First Pitch at Detroit Tigers Game

Berna Greer, CPA, national treasurer of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and senior auditor for DaimlerChrysler will throw out the first pitch at the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals game on Friday evening, July 14, 2006 at Comerica Park. DaimlerChrysler serves as the official automotive sponsor of the 62nd National Convention of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the sponsor of the Negro League Baseball weekend that is held this week in Detroit. Additionally, Ms Greer who is a native of Louisville, Mississippi will meet Marcus Thames, outfielder for the Detroit Tigers and native of Louisville, Mississippi.
More than 8,500 African-American women, their families and supporters are capturing the SPIRIT of community service and volunteerism in Detroit, Mich., July 12-16, 2006. Focused on improving the lives of children through literacy, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are holding their 62nd National Convention in Detroit, bringing millions of dollars to the city. The Hon. Jennifer Granholm, Governor of the state of Michigan was in attendance at the Public Meeting on Wednesday evening and brought greetings from the state of Michigan.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is the nation's premier service organization. In the past three years alone, the sorority has provided more than 4 million hours of services and $22 million to support service projects across the country and abroad benefiting more than 18.6 million people. The organization's signature program, the Ivy Reading Akademy has been funded by a $1.5 million dollar grant by the U.S. Department of Education enabling AKA to set up after-school reading programs for at-risk children in some of America's most underserved communities.
