ebrary Leverages ProactiveNet as Primary IT Infrastructure Performance Monitoring Tool
Market Wire, July, 2006
ProactiveNet, Inc., the time-to-value leader in Business Services Management, today announced that ebrary, a leading eBook technology and services provider, leverages ProactiveNet's technology to gain early warning of IT performance issues that could threaten online service delivery.
ebrary has developed an eContent delivery platform that turns static PDF files into highly interactive databases that are full-text searchable and can be cross-referenced through the ebrary Reader(TM) and InfoTools(TM) software. Documents delivered via the ebrary platform are delivered to the end-user's desktop page-by-page, eliminating cumbersome document downloads while allowing large PDF files to be easily distributed online.
Currently, more than 220 publishers distribute more than 80,000 eBooks and other authoritative content to libraries via the ebrary platform. More than 1,000 libraries throughout the world, representing over 7 million patrons, license these eBooks under a variety of access and payment models.
"As ebrary's global customer base is growing exponentially, it is critical for ebrary to have the tools in place to monitor and track performance," said Neal Strickberger, Vice President of Operations at ebrary. "With ProactiveNet, we monitor our infrastructure, applications, and subsystems as well as receive early warnings before performance issues occur. We are very pleased with ProactiveNet as a primary tool for managing our internal and external services delivery."
ProactiveNet works by automatically learning the normal operating behavior of a company's end-to-end IT infrastructure environment, and provides early warning when a performance attribute is outside of its normal range but has not yet affected service delivery. This preemptive problem identification, combined with the product's ease-of-use and automated management features, allows organizations like ebrary to achieve value quickly while optimizing the service experience for their end users and partners.
"What sold us on ProactiveNet was its ability to deploy very quickly, its ease-of-use, and its ability to provide us with relevant, actionable performance alerts almost immediately," continued Strickberger. "When we compared it to the cost and complexity of the large systems management frameworks, and also to a free Web-based network and systems monitoring tool, it was no contest."
In addition to the benefits discussed above, ProactiveNet's patented service analytics technology provides the unique ability to link SLAs, and other business-related performance data, directly to the performance of the IT infrastructure in real-time. This capability enables IT operations and business unit owners to see how IT services are affecting the business, and helps them allocate staff and technology resources more efficiently.
"ebrary has been a customer for four years, and continues to expand its usage of ProactiveNet as requirements change," said Ajay Singh, President and CEO of ProactiveNet. "We look forward to continuing the relationship for many more years, and are pleased we've had the opportunity to demonstrate our product's scalability as ebrary has grown."
