AnchorFree Launches Free iPod Application Allowing Users to Locate Nearest Free Wi-Fi Hotspots
Market Wire, August, 2006
AnchorFree, the world's largest free Wi-Fi network & community, consisting of more than 10,000 wireless "hotspots" in over 2,400 cities across the U.S. and worldwide, announced the availability of its new wiPod solution which allows users to download lists of hotspot locations to their Apple iPods.
"These days, people want to stay connected while they travel without spending a fortune using high-speed Internet access at hotels and cafés, and for hundreds of thousands of college students returning to school in the coming weeks, finding free hotspots means major savings," said David Gorodyansky, president & co-founder of AnchorFree. "Using AnchorFree's free wiPod application, users can simply go to our website, click on the area they're interested in, and download a full list of local hotspots. This way, they have addresses and phone numbers of each location stored in their Apple iPod, ready to go."
The wiPod application uses the "notes" functionality of the iPod operating system to store the database of free hotspot locations in an easy to use format. To become a member of the AnchorFree community and to download the free wiPod application visit http://www.anchorfree.com/wipod . Once the download and setup is complete, users simply access the "Notes" section from the "Extras" option on the iPod main screen.
"At AnchorFree, we believe the old saying 'the best things in life are free.' Our free wiPod solution will help people stay connected without having to pay exorbitant Wi-Fi charges often found at hotels and coffee shops," added Gorodyansky.
