Socket Communications and Mosaic Sales Solutions Team Deliver Real-Time Sales Force Automation
Market Wire, August, 2006
Socket Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity products, today announced Mosaic Sales Solutions, the largest field sales and marketing company in North America, is recognizing significant cost savings, greater inventory recording and tracking accuracy through the use of a portable data collection solution featuring the Socket SD Scan Card 3E. As a result, Mosaic recently increased the deployment of the Socket SD Scan Card by 22 percent to continue to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its sales and marketing programs with their Fortune 500 customers.
As the first company in the field marketing industry to operate all field programs with mobile technologies, Mosaic provides merchandising and sales support for several of the top electronic brands in the U.S. and Canada. Mosaic deploys field specialists with an innovative portable data collection system using Pocket PCs equipped with proprietary software and the Socket SD Scan Card 3E for recording tracking numbers, inventory levels and SKU-specific data about consumer demographics and purchase patterns. With the solution, Mosaic is now also able to collect SKU-specific data on consumer demographics and behavior resulting in smarter marketing execution.
"Industry studies show that more than 80 percent of purchasing decisions are made at the store and are often influenced by retail associates," said Dario Passadore, marketing director of Mosaic. "In-store marketing has quickly become today's sweet spot for marketers from virtually any business-to-consumer industry, and this is where Mosaic plays a critical role. Programs that use the Socket scanner have experienced a dramatic reduction in reporting time -- almost 10 percent, which saves our clients several millions of dollars and can equate, depending on the program's characteristics, to more than a 100 percent return on their investment."
Prior to deploying the Socket Scan Cards, Mosaic's field representatives relied on physical inventories and manual data entry with pen and paper to process complicated SKU information. Additionally, a clerk then had to enter all data manually into Mosaic's central database in order to communicate the information throughout the company.
The current data collection solution enables Mosaic's mobile workers to simply press a button on their Socket enabled Pocket PCs to scan bar codes containing key product and SKU-specific information. The data is instantaneously recorded in the device and uploaded into the company's central database via the Internet.
In addition to processing inventories and scanning shipping labels, the Socket SD Scan Card is also used to collect SKU-specific demographic data about customers in the store. After interacting with customers on the store floor, Mosaic field specialists scan the SKU number of the product and enter data about the customer, including relevant anecdotes about their purchase behavior. This information enables Mosaic's customers to see sales performance and analyze purchase and non-purchase patterns by age and gender, resulting in smarter execution and greater market intelligence.
"Mobility and real-time information is key for retailers to gain a competitive advantage today," said Peter Phillips, vice president of marketing at Socket Communications. "Savvy retailers understand that bringing information to the consumer, store employees and managers can boost both top and bottom line results. Mosaic's commitment to utilize mobile data collection technology results in very timely and effective marketing and sales data with a quantifiable impact for its retail enterprise customers."
